CPS Tool for Success By CPS Tool for Success Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) this is a method or tool which enable stakeholders come together so that they can find a solution to a certain problem or concern. In order to address problem affecting a given business, stakeholders have to put aside their differences since some of the issues are hard to solve and they therefore require joint effort and collaboration. In summary, it is a method of solving problems collaboratively. CPS, as a tool for business success has different levels or rather parameters that make it effective: identify, defining, exploring, selecting, implementation, and reviewing.

CPS tools start by identifying the problems that are facing an organization. This step involves identifying the problem, its cause, who it affects and how it affects people or the organization. Goals, strategies, and measures to curb and solve the problems are laid down. In order to bring this step to light and make it known to stakeholder, communication channels as if Social networks, leadership forums, and retreats among others are used (Doyle, 2006). Moreover, this phase does not only involve finding solutions to problem, it may also involve coming up with new and innovative ways that can be used to propel the organization to new heights of success.

After finding the problem, stakeholders now define the problem. This involves narrowing it down until it becomes clearer; the huge problem is split up into “smaller” but manageable problems. The purpose is to find solution one-step at a time and with the breaking down, one can tell exactly the source of the “big” problem (Mike, Barrack, & Chen, 2000). The CPS exploring phase entails coming up with possible and achievable methods of solving the problem. As much as there might be one solution for the issue at hand, the main idea behind this phase, is to come up with as many solutions as possible after which weight and priority is attached to those solutions.

Unforeseen consequences are also evaluated. During this phase, shareholder are advised not to clarify anything, quantity is what matters in this phase, and not quality (Ward, 2013). After all the possible solutions have been proposed, they are selected in order to filter the best and promising solutions. These selected solutions are put in practice and the outcome, whether successful or otherwise, is analyzed and reviewed. Depending on evaluation of the outcome, stakeholders may decide to start the selecting process again or continue to the other level of CPS.

Moreover, it is in this phase that some hidden problems are known as the solution to one problem may give rise to another problem. Moreover, the solution reached upon should be agreed by all the involved parties so that everyone can be motivated to see that this solution is realized. In order to leverage success in a given organization or business, this model has the following benefit. In any given business, there usually arises conflict of interest as each shareholder has his or her own goals and objectives to attain, through the organization.

As a result, one will be pushing for what they desire being done and in the end, problems arise. With existence of misunderstanding, nothing of value can be achieved and therefore, CPS tool enables all this shareholders work together using an agreed means of communication to solve their differences. As a result, shareholders are now able to come with a common goal that is not biased to anyone, invest all their resources to and commitment to that common objective. Because of the sense of ownership, this feel results through collaborative leadership.

Beside bring shareholder to common understanding, this tool enable a business identify and come up with solutions to other problems affecting the organization, which would otherwise lead to collapse of the business. Through CPS, the root core of a problem is identified and systematically solved. In addition, in the process of coming with solutions to an existing process, new and innovative methods, to respond to the challenging market of the business, come up. The continuous success of any business relies heavily on good and new leadership.

Through, CPS, new leadership may come up. Some certain problems in a given organization may be because of leadership and during problems solving analysis; stakeholders may agree to train new leaders.
