Business Communications Part Press Release IPhone 5s arrives on planet Earth: Courtesy Apple Inc. Cupertino, California: 17th September The announcement of Apple, mentioning that iPhone 5s will be publicly available within a week is definitely a big relief for retailers and mobile phone dealers across the globe. The new iPhone is also available at the online store of the company. It is categorized as one of the best smart phones across the globe with astonishing new features. The packaging has been done brilliantly into a remarkably light and thin design. Few of the amazing and most celebrated features of the new iPhone 5s include 8 megapixel camera and Touch ID enabling the owner to unlock with a finger. The 4 inch retinal display gives a beautiful experience. Other features encompass a better battery life, A6 chip and a completely redesigned user interface (Apple, 2013).
Another remarkable distinction of the new iPhone 5s is its integration with IOS 7 operating system. As a result, there are many distinctive features such as, control centre, improved multitasking, functional and distinct layers, stylish colour palette, enhanced iTunes and much more. Perhaps, a single description or page is not enough to justify the product envisioned by late Steve Jobs.

End of an era: Gloomy Environment and Risk Ahead
The tragic death of Steve Jobs has raised many questions regarding his life as well as the future of Apple. Steve Jobs can be easily considered as the symbol of Apple Inc., besides its trademark logo. The legend was the mastermind behind great creations such as, Ipad, iMac, iPhone as well as iTunes. Steve Jobs was the co-founder of Apple and it is certain that the company will not see any immediate change in its structure. This can be concluded from the fact that Jobs had successfully established Apple as a company with strong build of creativity, innovation and research, which will remain unmatched for long. There is also a long history of entrepreneurial organisations that not only survived under the charismatic leadership of their founders, but also successfully thrived after their death. Few instances are Ford and Disney. Both these organisations did not only survive, but have successfully established a niche in their field and are currently known among top brands in their respective industries. Apple will continue as a major player in the electronics and computing world, even without Jobs.
However, the question still remains whether the company will be able to continue its industry leadership as it had been under Steve Jobs. History has repeated itself, but in a sad and unrepeatable manner. Initially, Jobs was fired, but only to come back as CEO of Apple in 1996, after which he changed the face of the organisation (Isaacson, 2011). The company is facing a similar situation now, except that it does not have Jobs anymore.
Maintaining the same edge and similar balance of research and innovation will definitely be a tough job for Apple now. The newly appointed CEO, Tim Cook, is no doubt, an apt replacement for the deceased leader. However, it is never easy for any organisation to continue dishing out innovative products consecutively, even when their visionary leaders are present around the corner. Steve Jobs clearly defied this theory and successfully established himself as one of the biggest innovators and creators in contemporary times (Yarov, 2013). The ongoing success of Apple has always been attributed to its quick-solving abilities as well as introduction of services and products that dramatically changed how individuals communicated, played and worked. The current risk which is faced by Apple, after Jobs death, can be related to another giant from electronics industry, Sony. Founded by Walkman and propelled forward by its two great co-founders, Sony was once an unrivalled and unparalleled brand. Even though Japanese continue to make quality consumer goods, it is difficult to claim that Sony is still the influential creator and innovator that it was during Walkman.
According to market reports, Apple’s level of innovation has slowed down after the death of Job. Even though company representatives have denied so by asserting that they are simply preparing for the best, it is evident that the company is yet to recover from the great loss (Thompson, 2013). The new CEO has also been criticised by investors as well as media for the lack of leadership capabilities and design prowess possessed by his predecessor. Another area, where Cook is considered as incapable, is managing the marketing operation of the company.
The question is whether Apple will suffer the same fate that is being suffered by Sony, Microsoft and other giants or will Tim Cook silence media and investors by implementing and designing products as good as Jobs. Another essential question to ponder upon is how far into the future did Steve Jobs plan. This can only be understood by the upcoming products as well as new categories of electronic devices (Yahoo Finance, 2011).
Part 3: Research Statement
A research statement for the current research will include a summary of the research proposal as well as various research achievements during the course. It will explain the interests, experiences, sources as well as various processes through which research was carried out. In the present study, research has been carried out to present a press release and a media article. Before the actual research for a proper and effective press release, study was done on how to prepare press releases (Graham and Herbert, 2010). Samples of various innovative and informative press releases were studied. The topic chosen for the press release was launch of iPhone 5. Majority of information were collected from secondary sources such as, company websites and articles from top news agencies as well as online magazines. Majority of news channels, such as, Time and CNBC, touted this launch as one of the major achievements, after the tragic and untimely death of Jobs (Justin, 2013). The information was exhaustive and it was understood that Apple desperately needed a breakthrough. Articles such as, those from Daily News and ABC news, focussed mainly on views and feedbacks of various industrialists and company honchos regarding the launch of Apple’s latest invention. The press releases from the company website were more informative, focussing on the features, new designs, added enhancements as well as pricing of various models of the new iPhone 5. Overall, the sources and articles chosen for the press release were satisfactory and reliable and aimed at various media outlets across the regions, including few top online magazines, newspapers as well as online news feed.
The topic chosen for the media article was death of Steve Jobs and the company’s future ahead. Though Steve Jobs had died in 2011, the media article will cover aspects from his death to the present situation faced by Apple and its management. The objective of the media article was to describe the current position of Apple after Steve Jobs and to foreground the various future possibilities and risks for them. Extensive secondary research was conducted for the same. Articles and news feeds from Time, CNBC, CNN and Wall Street were very comprehensive. Articles from Time highlighted various risks that the company has been exposed to after the death of its visionary leader. Another article from ABC news posted in the year 2011, right after Steve Job’s death, had a very illuminating video of his early life, including family and friends (Potter, 2011; Schuman, 2011). This helped in understanding his curious and innovative nature from childhood. In order to understand Jobs life better and make the press article more engaging, Steve Job’s autobiography was also used as a reference. An article from Mac World, posted a year later, gathered and put forward opinions and feedback on the company’s status after Jobs (Mac World, 2012). It consisted of Job’s legacy, his philosophy and creativity as well as change in people’s perception. It also focussed on the change in work pattern and work culture of Apple, after CEO, Tim Cook, took over. Sources such as, Business Insider, were referred in order to understand the perception of general people regarding Apple after Steve Jobs. Overall, extensive research was conducted in order to gain deeper insights about Steve Jobs along with his legacy, his tragic death and the sudden organizational changes entailed with it as well as steps taken by the new CEO and the management, in order to recover and create confidence among media, investors and general public.
