Ethical Cases Ethically Dubious Conduct Staying in the most expensive hotel is not morally acceptable because employees are not allowed to waste money on luxuries. Taking taxis when one can walk is also not morally acceptable because also not morally acceptable for the same reason. Drinking wine might be condoned because it is not a big expense. Many people are in a habit for drinking wine after dinner and, therefore, this is morally justified. Taking spouse on a business trip is immoral by every stretch of the imagination.

Spouse will not add value to the business of the firm and, therefore, her expenses should not be paid by the firm. People usually use office computer and office time to do their personal work because they do not think it as unethical and also feel that they won’t get caught. In order to discourage such behavior managers should be vigilant and should educate their employees regarding unethical behavior. Bad News Whistleblower did the right thing because he first notified his company regarding the unethical practice.

It was only when his company disregarded all his reservations that he blew the whistle on the malpractice of the company. He raised his voice in the company and when he was not heard, he became a whistleblower. There is no doubt that the whistleblower’s actions were commendable. I would also have done the same thing if I were in the position of the whistle blower. All companies should set up an ethics committee that should be completely autonomous and that should report only to top level management.

The recommendations of this ethics committee should be followed to the letter. All employees should be encouraged to report to this ethics committee in case they find any unethical practices going on in the company. The names should also be kept anonymous so that employees are not afraid of a backlash in the organization. Consenting to Sexual Harassment The actions of Vinson were not at all voluntary because she was not in a position to say no as here employment was in danger. Her approval of sexual advances cannot be termed as voluntary because she would not have accepted the sexual advances if Taylor would have made them outside office without being her supervisor.

The fact that Taylor was her supervisor makes her actions non voluntary because she was only trying to save her job. The sexual harassment was not justified because the supervisor made use of his position to make an employee submit to sexual advances. The Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court were right about the case. A sexual harassment case cannot be rejected because a victim submitted to the demands of her supervisor. Her behavior was not voluntary because her job was in danger and she had to do what her supervisor wanted.

Job Discrimination One possible alternative is to ask her to work from home for as much longer as possible. In this way, the company will not have to bear the expense of a temporary worker for a longer period of time. It is not legally or ethically possible to interfere in her personal life. A manager can also delegate more responsibility to the pregnant woman before her pregnancy leave. The pregnant woman should not be fired but she should be made responsible for more work before her leaves start.

Cost of employing a woman is not more than that of employing a man because women have different qualities than men. It is true that women are entitled for pregnancy leaves but they also are moral loyal than men.
