They are usually involved in strategy design, strategy improvement and strategy implementation. These executives are often termed Chief Strategy Officers (CSOs). In an organisation, they require dealing with a range of activities such as product or service innovation, global business expansion, merger and acquisition and business procedure restructure among others. They perform with several executives and thus they require a variety of skills and experiences to undertake the duties in an effective manner.

CSOs have considerable power in an organisation to make strategies into practice and often grab new business opportunities.
