Task: Admission Essay Question Business processes act as global connectors because they unite individuals with common interests and generate revenue. My career aspiration is to become an executive director of a global firm with a similar reputation as JP Morgan Chase or Apple. These organizations exemplify passion and innovations in their dealings and business ventures. I have always perceived these organizations as pioneers in their respective fields and working for them in a business capacity would be honorable. I also hope to put up a business consultancy firm that will offer worthwhile solutions to businesses across the US and beyond. My interest in business began when I was young. My close relations set up business ventures that gave me an opportunity to assist in operations; furthermore, these ventures were instrumental because they introduced me to numerous aspects of the business. I acknowledged that the community was reliant on the small businesses to provide their fundamental necessities. The small business ventures eventually grew big allowing them to employ additional personnel and workers. Consequently, the workers, owners and the community benefited significantly. Indeed, this rejuvenated my interest in business and I became aware that it also brings back handsome rewards. I was able to contribute substantially to the other businesses run by my close relations. These were instrumental in boosting my entrepreneurial skills. I believe my entrepreneurial spirit and ideas will contribute to the success of the US economy because I will recognize and exploit opportunities. I will identify viable business prospects and measure their feasibility with the additional business knowledge I acquire from John Hopkins. The business courses are critical tools of imparting business knowledge and skills to aspiring business leaders. Failure to apply appropriate business techniques would affect societal operations. An example is the 2008 financial predicament that was attributable to the miscalculation of business investments in the major corporations. It led to bankruptcy and collapse of promising financial institutions, for example, AIG. I acknowledge that the global marketplace requires business leaders that can act rapidly based on the universal trends (Summers 39). The 2008 crises is a distinct situation where business leaders were expected to formulate innovative solutions. Furthermore, they were to develop actionable plans that their staff was to execute in order to avert the ailing state of their companies. The John Hopkins Carey School program will immensely support my career and educational goals. The program’s objective is to impart business knowledge to students. This will equip me with comprehensive business expertise and perspective. Additionally, the university will train me how to apply the appropriate knowledge to various business challenges by undertaking projects. John Hopkins is world-renowned educational institution that develops creative business leaders that understand how to build a sustainable business in developing markets. The students relate their knowledge on real world business problems and derive innovative solutions from the process. The experience would be fulfilling because it would enrich me with knowledge on business processes. Finally, the cultural diversity within the university will expose me to several business processes from the students who come from different areas. Question 2 My most significant success was realizing that I had a passion for business. I remember sitting at a corner of a grocery store run by a family member while other children were playing outside. Consequently, I learned that passion is an essential element in an individual’s life. It was noticeable through his eyes. He was zealous about his business undertakings. His unrelenting passion in the business was evident in his communication with customers and actions within the grocery shop. These experiences infused the entrepreneurial skills within me. After high school, I saw it appropriate to exploit a business gap that was present in the home delivery business. This was to be different from the supermarket chain delivery system that occurs when one buys their products in bulk and require home delivery. My business would involve the distribution of portable goods from one location to the other. I talked to a few businesses within my home areas that allow me to run their errands at a decent fee. I acknowledged that naming the company “Swift Deliveries” would add value to my business. At first, it was manageable since my clients were a sizeable bunch. The number of deliverables was increasing making it necessary to expand my business. I put up an office in a separate location of the town to facilitate efficient service to my clients. Indeed, positive reviews came from customers highlighting that the deliveries were timely and in good condition. Definitely, my delivery business was successful and gave me encouragement to further my business interests. Consequently, the customers began to diminish. They cited poor quality and delays in service as possible causes of their discontent. I noticed that natural causes such as delays at the point of collection contributed to the current state. This was not my fault; however, I failed to communicate such a status to the concerned customer because I assumed that they would understand. Indeed, assumptions are bad for businesses. I am enthusiastic about learning business processes. These will enable me play a chief role in business projects of various corporations and put up innovative concepts to solve business problems. Although my experience and curiosity has allowed me to set up a business, my failure to grasp essential concepts in management, for instance, the restaurant business showed that business education is necessary. I still need to learn how to manage business ventures of a larger scope domestically or beyond. I also learned that the success of a business is dependent on the capacity of an individual to understand the external and internal factors. These fundamental situational factors determine the extent of success. I acknowledge that my business was informal making it difficult to draw the required proceeds that would propel success; furthermore, failure to seek insight from my mentors equally contributed to the dire state. Additionally, I noticed that success in the delivery business at the beginning was attributable to my hard work and passion; however, the renowned businesses identified the existing gaps consequently enhancing their marketing strategies. Question 3 I believe my enrollment into the business program at Carey will contribute to the attainment of my goals and objectives. I attained high grades particularly in commerce related subjects. My good command of English and dedication to performing business research makes make a strong candidate for enrollment in the business program. The instructors and tutors from my previous learning institution recommended me based on my performance and commitment to studies. The degree is appropriate because it will expose me to the commercial environment and prime elements that are significant in running a business organization. The business industry requires an individual to maintain high levels of competitiveness (Summers 42). Therefore, this course will equip me with the essential skills for the business world. Furthermore, the business course will enable me to fit easily into the job industry after completion. It would also give me an opportunity to major in diverse specialization areas such as banking and insurance. These specialization areas generate exhilarating experiences and challenges. The business course will equip me with the necessary skills that will assist me in applying the class experience at the work place. Based on the research I have conducted on Johns Hopkins Carey Business School program, I acknowledge that the skills that I would obtain include evaluating and choosing information, efficient communication in a commercial perspective, capacity to meet deadlines and managing time efficiently. Furthermore, this degree will enable me realize my dream of becoming an enterprise manager. This career requires that an individual learn fundamental business concepts that would propel success. My unique contribution towards the Carey community is becoming a team player and always being available upon request. I also believe that I am a problem-solver, a position that would empower me to contribute to the success of the university through peer counseling. Question 4 My prime learning need is understanding vocabulary. Some of the terms used by the tutors may be complex to understand. This may affect my retention capacity in class. I believe that identification such a learning need would be important to my studies. A distinct learning need that I have recognized over time is identifying and selecting the relevant study materials and plan, the suitable study activities. An additional learning need is tutor engagement because it will enable me learn effectively. I prefer lecturers asking questions after completion of a given topic because the questions will gauge my understanding. Therefore, this instruction strategy will increase my engagement in class. Personally, examination of these learning needs will contribute to purposeful learning. Moreover, it will enable the tutors identify the level of student literacy. Question 5 I would develop analytical skills because they will enable me to solve complex problems, and make sensible decisions based on information. Moreover, I will have the capacity to incorporate logical thinking while collecting and analyzing information regarding decision-making. Additionally, I would like to be competent while executing leadership functions. This competency will be particularly beneficial after job acquisition because it will enable me to exercise effective leadership in the organization. Moreover, it would enable me have the capacity to work with different people from different departments in the same organization. Additionally, I would develop competency in communication. This is because the business sector requires efficient communication while dealing with clients. Persuasion of clients is necessary in ensuring marketability of products and services and requires an efficient communicator (Summers 43). Consequently, I need to search for a job following conclusion of my course. Money is significant in daily life because it enables an individual to address basic needs. Consequently, one is able to move higher in the social chain. My long-term goal is to become a senior manager in a business organization. This position will empower me to oversee the operations of the organization and make relevant decisions. My ultimate long-term goal is becoming a successful entrepreneur with the ability to identify gaps in the society and address them through goods and services. Question 7 A certificate from the university is a proof that I have successfully completed my studies. This certificate will boost my chances of landing a job at a business organization. The successful acquisition of a job will be a major step in realizing my goal of becoming a senior manager in a reputable organization.
