BUS217 Weekly Assignment No. 13 What are the differences between a business plan and a proposal? Why does an entrepreneur need to write a business plan? A business plan is a document or a number of documents that lay out the structure and future of a company. The focus here is on what goals to achieve and then how to get there. A business plan is essential for every business because loan companies or investors will not listen to one word that you say unless you can produce a business plan detailing the operations of the business. On the other hand, a business proposal is something that is formulated before a business is formed or bought. This can be thought of as the pre-planning stage; before making a key business decision, a proposal is required by management to show what exactly it is that is being proposed. In some cases, a proposal will need to be submitted before a contract is awarded. As there will be other business proposals, it is important that the proposal is as detailed as possible. Because entrepreneurs often take great risks when it comes to business, it is important that a business plan is formulated. This plan needs to be extremely detailed because entrepreneur often have very little capital to work with. A well-thought-out plan can ensure that goals and objectives are met at the required times. Time is money to entrepreneurs, so the faster that they can find out if something is not working, the quicker they can move onto other strategies. BUS217 Weekly Assignment No. 14 Name: What are visual clichés? Explain why you should avoid them. Marketing campaigns that use visual clichés are often unsuccessful. This is because they go way over people’s heads and do not have the intended impact on the viewer. Visual clichés are pictures that have been used repeatedly to the point where they become part of a culture. The goal of a marketing campaign is to shock the viewer by displaying something they have never seen before. If this happens, they are likely to notice the advertisement and offer an appropriate response. Then, if another advertiser comes along and attempts the very same thing, they are likely to not have the same impact as the first advertiser. Not only could this be a breach of copyright, it also is very unoriginal. It shows desperation that an advertising campaign is willing to use something that is so ingrained in our brains that we do not particularly care for it anymore. Visual clichés are often harder to avoid than regular clichés because there are only so many ways that an image can be represented. Visual clichés should be avoided because they offer nothing new and can turn a viewer off simply because they become frustrated. Marketing is all about new and exciting ideas, and visual clichés are the exact opposite of this. To avoid visual clichés, use original images that can and will impact the audience in a positive way. BUS217 Weekly Assignment No. 15 Name: Why is it important to proofread your résumé until it is perfect? What steps can you take to improve your résumé? A résumé is the first thing that an employer receives when considering who he or she should hire for a job. Because first impressions are everything when it comes to applying for a job, the résumé becomes a key factor in deciding whether or not to take someone on. A résumé that is riddled with errors and looks sloppy reflects badly on the person to which it belongs. A prospective employer will likely react negatively to this because he or she will assume that a job candidate will also act this when performing the job. If they can’t even spell words right on their résumé, then what hope do they have for trying to become part of a successful company. It is really important to proofread a résumé until it is perfect because a prospective employer will treat someone in an interview based on the impressions they got from reading the résumé. To improve a résumé, get someone else to read over it. Other can often pick up things that are missed the first time because they did not write the résumé themselves. The person to whom the résumé belongs will not be able to catch everything because they sometimes pass over things that they have already written. Another way to improve a résumé is to get help from a professional résumé writing service. These types of services know exactly how to structure a résumé and will also correct any errors that may be present. BUS217 Weekly Assignment No. 8 Name: What are the components of a sympathy letter?
