A Wellness Plan to Help Improve Employee Productivity Executive Summary The project that deals with a wellness plan to improve employees’ productivity and quality of work life is the need of the hour at the organization. The Human Resource Manager Ms. Polly Peoples has proposed this plan in which the first stage of the program will last for 10 weeks where the employees will be committed to a team activity, the second stage will last for a long period of six months and will focus on nutritious diet plan whereas the third stage will take around one year to get completed where both exercise and nutrition would be focused.
But since the company hardly makes any profit, it cannot provide any financial incentives to the employees to pursue any wellness goals. So, the HR Manager agreed to underwrite the cost of providing free pedometers to any employee who signs up for the wellness program and this plan have several stages but now Ms. Peoples is focusing on the first stage, that is, the team activity. This stage basically calls for the planning function. Planned Activities The suggested activities that have been decided for the employees who would be asked to do it for the first 10 weeks of the campaign include walking 5000 steps a day, a walk after lunch and also that of joining an exercise or yoga classes.
Employee Details Out of the 150 employees in the entire organisation, there are 25 employees in the accounts department with 60% of the employees to be in the age group of 35 to 45. Also, the physical attributes of the team members suggest that 75% of them are overweight and 40% of the team suffers from various cardiac disorders. Budget In order to maintain the gym equipments, approximately $150 would be required whereas the instructor’s fee would call for $50. For providing free medical screening to the employees for the first time $50 can be allocated.
The electricity bill is expected to be around $20. The installation costs of the vending machines for providing diet food items might require $120. Also, there should be allocation of funds, may be of $ 20 to provide certificates or gifts to those employees who performs well in order to motivate them, and miscellaneous expenses provision can be that of $50. Project Schedule At the outset, a health endorsement program can be launched where the employees have to undergo a medical screening test and accordingly the employees will be provided with the diet plan where instead of junk foods, healthy nutritious food will be provided in the vending machine at a cheaper cost as that would be beneficial to the employees in both ways that is economical as well as healthy.
The gym instruments to be provided to the employees would facilitate their habit of exercising at the work place during the break periods which would help them to stay fit and fresh. A proper routine plan would be developed so that the employees can follow the routine accordingly and create a healthy environment so that they feel comfortable as well as satisfied during their work out. Finally, the wellness programme must motivate the workers to work efficiently so as to improve employee productivity as well as employees' quality of life.
The schedule also includes that if the workers are interested then they can come on Sundays to do exercises. Bibliography Krueger, G. P. & USFMCSA (2007). Health and Wellness Programs for Commercial Drivers. Transportation Research Board, 2007.
