1. In the event that I am the supervisor and am confronted with a situation similar to that pertaining to Fred Winslow of allegedly coming late to work, I would first and foremost call him to my office then talk to him face to face. Given that Winslow is a reputable person in the company as a whole who has successfully acted as an intermediary between disagreeing factions and also given that he has been late by less than 30 minutes twice now and already docked an hour’s pay on each occasion, his situation is still manageable and it would be too early to ring the alarm bells.

As the Supervisor, I would first do my own investigations in an attempt to establish why Winslow is 30 minutes late in the event that he checks in late and try to reconcile with his own version to establish the authenticity of his story. Having done this, I would still tell him that I have been seeing the latest development and would take the opportunity to remind him the fact that the company rules and regulations still apply to everyone in spite of his growing popularity within the company.

I would remind him as well that it is always very important to first check in by 8.00am before embarking on any other business whatsoever as this would bear testimony of every person’s actual check-in time. I would engage him in a professional manner where I would ask him to present his on side of the story before taking appropriate decisions guided by the company’s rules and regulations. 2. As a Supervisor, one of the main responsibilities would include enforcing and implementing all the laid down company rules and regulations.

These regulations must be universally applied to every member of the company in a transparent manner without fear or favour. In the event that Winslow is found guilt of tardiness, as per company regulations an hour’s salary is docked given that he is late by about 30 minutes. I would still remind him that he may face a week suspension without pay if he is late again for the third time in a row pending dismissal if he does not change his behavior. By simply letting Winslow get away without any charge even after he is found guilt would set a bad precedence for the other workers who in the future would also seek justification for their wrong doings on the leniency given to Winslow.

This would send a clear message to everyone that by virtue of being popular, it would not necessarily mean to say that one is immune to persecution even if he is found on the wrong side of the law. 3. If I was the supervisor’s boss then he came saying that he has evidence to show that Winslow was late, I would recommend him to engage Winslow before taking a tougher stance say of suspension if he is late for the third time in a row. In any case, Winslow’s cases are not very serious and badly out of hand that they warranty a hard line stance that it would be more appropriate to engage him and reprimand him against inappropriate conduct such coming late to work.

In this case I would like to believe that an amicable solution is found earlier before the situation goes out of hand. This would also serve the purpose of showing that no one would be out for witch hunting but just to correct an anomaly before it grows to an unmanageable degree. 4. The only way of preventing this situation from recurring is through constantly reminding every member of the organisation the significance of coming early to work and the consequences of such behavior as coming late for duty.

All human being are fallible, they are subject to make mistakes but some of these mistakes are often taken for granted hence the need to give the workers proper education and awareness about how they ought to conduct themselves. One of the main duties of the supervisor is to implement the company regulations and this routine must be performed on a daily basis. In this way, every employee is constantly reminded about the proper conduct at work and the importance of keeping time so as to avoid embarrassing situations where one will end up losing his hard earned pay as a result of a simple mistake like coming to work late with about 30 minutes only.
