Organization Paper This paper talks about an organization in detail. It discusses how its various resource departments function together to form a single unit dealing with many aspects of business functioning. It focuses on one particular organization, this being Nestle, and discusses its operations with respect to two organizational resources. The paper in conclusion also analyzes how it has made use of both these resources to increase its overall performance and efficiency. The chosen organization- Nestle: Nestle is a Switzerland based company that has been operating since decades now. Its operations now are widespread, with offices and factories in areas as far as East Asia and even South Africa. Nestle provides the entire world with many products that include: baby products, bottled water, chocolates, coffee, ice-cream, beverages etc. (Nestle Website, 2008) Whenever multinational operations, the term is mentioned anywhere, the first thing that comes to one’s mind is how a big set of resources and wide spread functioning and handling of these resources. Then another question pops up that relates to how is it all managed and what is done to make sure that the resources that can include many things (as written as follows), are made to operate and function effectively to make it all stand to the advantage of the big organization- this being Nestle in this case. Hence the role of management is thought about, and analyzed so that a concluding statement can be made that whether is Nestle managing it al well or not. Is there room for improvement, or is the resource management too efficient for room for more betterment. Starting off, there are many organizational resources. These are: Physical assets example: land, buildings Monetary or financial assets Human capital or human resources Knowledge and expertise Technology as resource Any company or organization uses some if all of these resources This paper however focuses on only two, these being human resource management and management of technology. As far as the second resource is concerned, this shall be focused in particular on the research and development element and how Nestle makes sure it keeps in touch with the new trends etc. Human Resource: Nestle calls itself a “human company”. The meaning of this is quite clear. Nestle focuses on its human resource element a lot, and calls itself just that because it believes that the human resource is the most important out of all resources that make up an organization. And that’s why it believes that its main focus goes to Nestlé’s employees as well as its customers. Nestle believes that it is the people’s commitment to work for Nestle efficiently that has made Nestle such a known brand throughout the world. Nestle hence has always made sure that people working for Nestle are active and have full cooperation with the company in whatever tasks that they are assigned a part of their jobs. The culture at nestle talks about valuing people’s existence, with respect to their religion, cultures, language, traditions etc. Hence, nestle has always made sure that it does not offend any customs or traditions in the place or area where it has its operations, these being so spread out. Nestle is a home brand, it is a home name. This is because of the value system that nestle believes in and how it has such a caring attitude towards life and people in general and its employees in specific. Since nestle operates in many different parts of the world, its employee base along with its customer base is also varied. However, it has been able to manage it all quite effectively, as all employees seem satisfied with the company general. Nestle hence assures there is commitment shared by all, and there is enthusiasm for working. Cooperation. Willingness to work, values, ethics, and integrity have all been taken care of. This is the reason why many across the world want to work with Nestle. (Nestle Resources Report, 2007) Nestle also has a very pragmatic and not a dogmatic approach to work and operations. This means a no bias environment and things are taken objectively. This is the reason why its employees feel so loyal towards the company and have a “good-nature” attitude towards it. When talking of pragmatism, there are a few principles which are part of its human resource departments everywhere. These are: Few levels of management; a flat structure therein Broad spans of control Existence f project teams and task forces Clear levels of responsibility Clear goals Team playing Networking Effective leader skills Democratic rather than autocratic attitude A no discrimination attitude Mutual respect Having talked about its human resource principles, it is clear how nestle is effectively leading its resource- human department so efficiently. Technology, Research and Development: Nestle just does not focus on human resources. It has through the years aimed at making technology a part of its everyday functions. For this purpose, it has made use of knowledge increments. To its employees through training programs (local and international) and other workshops. It has also made sure that it is in line with the world’s growing requirements. By this it is meant, that nestle has always assured that its products are in-line with recent trends and growing changes. For his purpose, it has always evolved itself constantly aiming at providing its entire customer base from doctors, to children from teenagers to expectant mothers to office going people etc., a good healthy lifestyle. All its products aim at the betterment of the society and indirectly the world’s healthcare, as its tagline boasts of “good food, good life”. Nestle has a very proper research and development department who’s major goal is knowledge sharing and knowledge bearing. This is to say, that nestle aspires to provide everyone with the best, and hence it undergoes research constantly to increase its knowledge through it. This involves many activities from inventing new baby milk formulas with the provision of the greatest minerals and vitamins vital for their growth, to providing everyone with the freshest, richest coffee beans to make and devour from a healthy, enrich mug of coffee. Nestle puts a healthy life at the highest order and hence carries out regular research and development projects to make better its products. It uses advanced science and technology for this aforementioned purpose. This according to Nestle includes these three characteristics or end goals: Nutrition, Wellness, Health. After thorough regular research does Nestle only come up with proper, original, adequate and nutritious products that are hence also able to compete in the world’s market? This research and development and use of technology hence makes sure that Nestle keeps getting the competitive edge which it does already have. It has invested CHF 1.9 billion in research during last year. There are more than five thousand employees who are only directed towards delivering and carrying out these research operations for Nestle. This does not include however the additional three hundred scientists who are PhD certified doctors. These are all dedicated towards the research center at Nestle. Nestle has also spent a lot in creating partnerships with its suppliers, and pharmaceutical companies to make sure that Nestlé’s products provide people with the latest, best research’ made formulas and ideas. (Nestle Management Report, 2007) Conclusion: In conclusion, we can say that Nestle has been quite the efficient company at managing these resources in specific. This can also be hence labeled as a reason as to why Nestle hence can be called such a huge brand name now. It all goes back to the handling of its resources in such an efficient manner, boosting people’s trust in nestle which obviously includes its employees and other stake holders too. Works Cited 1.
