Since a business degree in management greatly enhances one’s career opportunities, business management majors have a wide variety of career choices that they can use to impact positively on the world (Rasmussen College 1). The major is designed for students aiming managerial roles business organizations. Therefore, a key advantage is to prepare students to face the business world which is extremely dynamic and this means the function of business management is to create fiscal integrity, stability, prosperity, employment, and beneficial products and services.

From this perspective, business management majors understand both big and small business, entrepreneurship and the important relationship between businesses and the communities they serve (The Education Post 1). A business degree in management is advantageous because it helps develop effective interpersonal skills, fosters decision-making and entrepreneurial thinking while familiarizing one with diverse business environments. It also makes one a confident public speaker who understands group dynamics and is equipped with problem solving and evaluating techniques.

The skills a graduate develops are transferable and applicable to areas such as organizational structure and behavior, personnel management, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making and production. Both local and international organizations that can gain from such skills include healthcare, financial institutions, education and the hospitality industry (AGCAS 1). Specific knowledge and skills that the major provides include having initiative, being self-reliant and having the ability to effectively manage time.

These skills are highly valuable to any organization since they are relevant to occupations such as project manager, small business manager, human resource administrator, regional operations manager, and hospitality manager. More importantly, the major enables students to gain a comprehensive outline of confidently using technology in the modern world to carry out business functions. This is achieved by integrating technology into classroom studies to simulate a “real-life” work environment that prepares students for everyday problem-solving in the business environment (Rasmussen College 1).

On one hand, business management involves working with people and entails hiring, training, coordinating, and creating effective environments for the attainment of organizational objectives. On the other hand, it involves laying foundations for becoming a business or organizational unit manager by developing strategy and decision-making skills. Business management major students are encouraged realize their maximum potential through a curriculum that prepares them to compete successfully in their preferred field (AGCAS 1).

The graduates are highly flexible and can fit in corporate teams or form their own team as entrepreneurs. Even those that are not working at management levels yet will still benefit by gaining an understanding of the process of management. This is because they have extensive understanding of the principles of organization, the need for division of labor and allocation of resources, and the necessity of a formal hierarchy in larger organizations (The Education Post 1). The ability to move into a management position or improve the current role in management is facilitated by the skills gained in communication skills, logical linear thinking and competence in leadership.

Ideally, they are decisive and enjoy leading a team towards achieving common goals. The flexible curriculum in the Business Management major allows students to tailor their degree to fit their interests and goals as can be seen by the coursework. The coursework includes ethics at work, creativity and innovation, leadership and influence skills, introduction to international business negotiation, principles of management, organizational development and human relations (Rasmussen College 1). Majoring in business management is not just designed for graduates to achieve their best but also to lead team members to greater achievement through its course foundation of basic management and organizational behavior.

Throughout the course, students participate widely and actively in networking, social and professional initiatives and activities to enhance leadership skills and emerge better qualified for future jobs. By collaborating classroom, community service projects and extracurricular club activities, the responsibility levels for different situations improve because they will experience the "reality" of such different situations. At the end of the course, graduates possess critical thinking and research skills and are highly adaptable so that they can work in and with diverse populations (AGCAS 1).
