The human resource department is mandated to advertise job postings, screen applicants, carry out preliminary interviews and organize hiring efforts together with managers responsible for making the final judgment on selection. Another important function of human resources is to ensure safety training and sustain federally authorized logs of workplace fatality reporting. In addition, the human resource department is charged with the responsibility of providing compensation and benefits to the employees. Human resources are also mandated to provide their employees with the necessary tools, which means that they should give new employees broad orientation training to help them transit to the new organizational culture. Compliance with employment and labor laws is a critical function of the human resource department. The human resource practitioners must be knowledgeable of the state and federal employment laws such as Labor Standards, and Title VII of the civil rights among other laws.

By using basic human resource tools such as organizational redesign, job redesign process redesign, and competency model development, businesses can effectively align their support and selling processes to the changing business realities. Human resource brings value to any business by executing strategies through constructing organizational capability. The human resource department is considered a link between the products an organization offers and the employees it hires. An efficiently run human resource department can be crucial to guarantee that a business runs efficiently and smoothly daily.

The basic role of human resources in the workforce is to the training of the new workforce. Human resource experts should provide plenty of training on particular skills that employees need to help them work effectively. They are also responsible for facilitating communication in the workforce. Change is one of the most frightening things to a workforce. Therefore, the human resource professional should communicate these changes in advance through newsletters, memos, letters, and departmental meetings to quell anxiety among employees.

The human resource department is charged with the responsibility of hiring, developing, and managing its staff. The human resource ensures that the employees that they recruit have the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake the tasks that will be provided to them. The development of employees can be handled by departmental managers, as there are new developments that arise in the course of the business. The human resource department works hand in hand with other departments such as marketing and production to ensure that the right employees are selected.

The most effective human resource professional is one who values the organizational employees in all ways. A human resource should see employees as the most valuable resource in an organization. An effective human resource expert should mind the welfare of the employees and ensure good working conditions for them.

The mindset of the least effective human resource professional is thinking that employees are liabilities to the organization. Ineffective human resource professionals, do not mind the qualification of the employees as they only fill in the positions. They do not pay attention to the needs and expectations of the employees.
