Murray Milner in his work Feaks, Greeks, and Cool Kids focuses on American culture which he thinks has not abandoned the consumer culture. He puts it that social ideals are for those people who work hard and play hard. He argues through consideration of preppie in the young age and bourgeois bohemian in adulthood with both the two groups working hard and playing hard so that they can at one time become lavish consumers. In the struggle to attain the status, hedonism as a culture in the set meets asceticism which is a cultural contradiction as it may lead to threat in consumption (Milner, 45). Exhortation in America to self-indulgence needed to continue with the consumption which potentially undercuts the self-discipline and obligation to work required for efficient production Patriotic consumption is brought out by the author as it becomes clear following a terrorism act that occurred in 2001. Due to the event, there was much claim by the public figures that the individuals were patriotic in spending their money in the place to stimulate the economy of the country. Due to the event that occurred, the people would be much concerned on personal and family affairs without the observation of the economic objectives of the country. it was noted that Americans had rationales to shopping before the attack occurred but this reduced as there was other new considerations when they did their shopping. According to Murray, preppies are the ones that can be used in the context to bring about linking of the roles. The link comes as the students are able to develop some moderate amount of discipline. Most successful students in their studies are those that have developed discipline and work extra hard in their studies. The students should find time out of class through getting themselves involved in recreational activities such as fine arts or enjoying a beautiful scene. This allows them to show knowledge and appreciation to the scenes. Partying is viewed as an event that enables one to forget about some factors though the event should be restricted to weekends only. Additional self-indulgence is required in activities that are daily carried out and they should be combined with self-discipline. When these practices are considered, there is taking the form of displaying better quality in the activities and goods that one uses (Milner, 78). The products used by one should be able to communicate self-indulgence and self-discipline of a person. Becoming a preppie is the best way to learn to manage the two main roles that are required to be successful in a society that mainly focuses on consumer capitalism. There are more important than the individual effects that are considered in the consumption of an individual and the collective ones being the result is a substantial population of links which are committed to the key requirements of a consumer society and high production and high consumption. The cross pressures of meeting these two sets of role requirements Outcomes as brought out in by Bohemians In the outcomes that are brought out by Murray, many think that alternating disciplined and hard work and genuinely enjoying their fruit of good life to be an accomplishment in life. They tend to think that this is balanced and is a new form of creative culture. In the arguments, bohemian and bourgeois are thought to have amalgamated lifestyle which consist of ideas which are thoughtful, educated and discipline. The ideas that they have are used to maintain appreciation of sensuality. Bobo in his arguments believe in individual freedom, social responsibility, choice and a strong community. In Bobos description, he captures many characters that managers and professionals have. The descriptions that are presented are those that are in the high social class with high social groups. The group presented are thought to be hardworking, more concerned on the environment, bright and emotionally sensitive. This makes them have limited connections with those whose lives are less privileged and less talented. Generally, the American culture and the culture that is brought about by Boboare copied around the world. They tend to copy the culture has the impact of putting into shape the global culture of those that are in the upper and middle class. Those that do not live in the high and middle class do not lack concern but the politics they involve in are always very well informed and brings out the support and strategies to reduce poverty and to live life in their own style (Milner, 109). This brings out the fact why members of this class and those that tried to practice the same lifestyle were shocked when there was bombing and killing in Oklahoma City. They claimed that the life they lived would never be the same since the event that occurred was awful and much tragic. When the event is compared with others that are experienced around the world, the outcomes of the bombing was limited to the number of people that got affected, the suffering that they experienced and the sense of security that people are exposed to. The education that one attains plays an important role not only in enabling people to attain technical skills but molding the desires and also ambitions. The life that one undergoes both inside and outside school powerfully shapes the personalities and views. Peer status is a integral link that brings about capitalism in a consumer (Milner, 209). Learning to become a better consumer is taught in schools. The strategy of economic development and world trade via free markets holds out the hope that our consumerism can become sufficiently available to those in the rest of the world that their resentments can be alleviated. Yet, even assuming that this occurs, it leaves unanswered another increasingly pressing question. Even with the most optimistic of assumptions it is difficult to imagine how such a world economy could be sustained without dire consequences for the natural environment. Those that tend to stay in an environment are influenced by the factors and changes that occurs in the environment. Works cited Milner, Murray. Freaks, Geeks, and Cool Kids.
