Quantitative Research Designs al Affiliation What type of research situation would involve the use of descriptive statistics?
Research may involve different quantitative research designs. However, some situations may require that descriptive statistics be solely applied to derive significant information. Descriptive statistics may be best for a research situation that requires a pattern be established from a set of data (Christensen, Johnson, and Turner, 2011). It is simply a means of describing the data to provide insight into the research. For example, establishing the rate of drug abuse in the society can be a daunting task. Descriptive statistics is used to illustrate the patterns of drug abuse within specific age groups. It is estimated that approximately 24 million teenage Americans, 9% of the entire population engage in drug abuse. Such research requires descriptive statistics to establish the trends and provide a visual impression of the research (Black, 1999). The research was conducted on a population to describe the data in relation to drug abuse.
2. Describe a research topic you might study using an experimental, quasi-experimental, or ex-post facto design.
An experimental research design can be applied when trying out a new technology in the public transport system. For example, attempting to see how commuters using public transport would respond to an easy pay system; pre-paid cards fitted with a magnetic chip and can be used as a means of payment in buses. An experimental research design would be appropriate for such a research situation because the research is subject to manipulation, control, random selection, and random assignment (Vogt, 2007). The above-mentioned characteristics of experimental research design indicate that the researcher can obtain as much information as possible due to the ease of control of the research topic. The research question would be: How will people respond to the easy pay system and the number of people that would recommend it. The independent variable will be the response (excited, satisfied, and not sure) while the dependent variable will be the number of commuters who recommend the system.

Hypothetical Research Designs

...Hypothetical research designs Abstract Research design is the plan or strategy which is formed to develop hypothesis for the research problem. Hypothetical research designs are mainly seen in case study form of research which requires analysis of behavioral and cultural aspect of the problem areas in the case study. In the field of virtual project management, where the project manager has the duty to manage a team of many people working in different parts of the country, he faces many challenges in this regards. These are the problems areas for which hypothesis is developed and accordingly data is...

Topic: The Quantitative Designs

...? The Quantitative Designs The Quantitative Designs In quantitative research design, the aim is to find out the correlation between an independent variable and a dependent or the outcome variable in a population. The designs of quantitative research can be either experimental (measured after and before a treatment) or descriptive (measured once). A descriptive research establishes only relations between variables while an experiment establishes causality. An experiment that is meant to test a hypothesis on the effects of a certain intervention by methods...

...?Quantitative Research Plan - Assessing and Recommending Quantitative Research Designs Descriptive Research Design (Tutor) (Date) As cited by Shields and Rangarajan (2013) quantitative research usually deals in numbers, unchanging static data, logic and the objective, focusing on the logic, and utilizes convergent reasoning. The research is going to determine the relationship between library’s sources of income (partnerships, joint ventures, and organizational sponsorships) which is the independent variable and financial stability which is the dependent or outcome...

Quantitative research appraisal

...Quantitative Research Appraisal Introduction: Nursing Research is systematic inquiry designed to develop knowledge about issues of importance to nurses, including nursing practice, nursing education and nursing administration. Quantitative Research: Typically, quantitative research is methodologically distinguished and governed by the positivist tradition to answer a question. Quantitative research typically consists of the collection, tabulation, summarization, and analysis of numerical data for the purpose of answering research questions or hypotheses...

Research Designs

...Research Designs Research studies provide valuable data that helps in understanding phenomenon and devising applications and treatments. But a badly executed research study can provide contaminated data that can lead to misleading conclusions. Thus, it is necessary that a research study be designed such that it collects the most accurate data and reduces the chances of error to the minimum. A good research design has four component parts, each of which helps in enhancing the quality of the study and reducing errors (Frankfort-Nachmias & Nachmias, 2008). 1) The study allows us to compare conditions such...

Assessing and Recommending Quantitative Research Designs

...Assessing and Recommending Quantitative Research Designs Kind of design recommended for research plan The kind of research design recommended for the current plan is the quasi experimental design. Generally, a quasi experimental design could be described as a very controversial type of research design that possesses the attributes of an experimental design but is not wholly an experimental design (Rodchua, 2009). Highly characteristic of the quasi experimental design, there is the deployment and use of a...

...Section/# Antidepressants and Suicide For purposes of choosing a journal article that was emblematic of a quantitative research method, this author has settled upon one which sought to answer key questions relating to antidepressants and suicide entitled, “Suicide and Antidepressants What Current Evidence Indicates”. Whereas many questions can be answered by differing manners of inquiry, certain medical research questions must utilize quantitative information as a way to inform the reader/researcher as to the broad perspective, key trends, and verifiable extant information that exists regarding a given topic. As a way of seeking to provide an example...

The paper uses articles reviewed earlier in the course to exposit the quantitative and qualitative methods, design, and analysis used in their research studies. Research questions, hypothesis, variables, and different research designs are discussed. The paper also explores how different researchers select and utilize different techniques and tools of data analysis. The paper closes with...

...on business performance. It involves interviewing and reviewing the records held by the non-profit organization. The results are supported by the data obtained from interviews and observations. However, the method is quite broad. It covers a wide area and even includes items that have not been affected by the business problem. It takes a lot of time to research the issue at hand because the researcher had to formulate, test, and establish propositions until the problem is established. On the other hand, the quantitative research design successfully establishes the problem and dissects is cause and effect relationship. In addition, the...

...statistically significant? Use of tables is imperative in such a scenario where juxtaposition is involved. The researchers went to an extent of establishing a statistical correlation between sex, anger, and anxiety. The findings show that there is a weak correlation between sex, anger, and anxiety as it is recorded between boys and girls. Although minor, it is crucial to determine such a relationship as it may have a significant impact on the final result and conclusions. 2) Subsequent childbirth after a previous traumatic birth Was the data analysis approach appropriate for the research design or tradition? Choice of method of data analysis enormously depends on the method and type of...
