Peer review A good introduction should be captivating and contain a short sentence that is closely linked to the abstract. The main topic and issues that are lined up for discussion should be well elaborated for the attraction of the attention of the reader and motivation to go all through the paper. The paper about recidivism goes straight to explain the meaning of the term in only one sentence. Although it captures the attention of the reader to want to read more, the explanation and the meaning of the term is not well exhausted.
There should be critical analysis that can make a simple person who has never met the term to understand it (Davis, 73).Throughout the writing, the writer understands the topic of recidivism and goes ahead to explain the problems in the prison cells. After that there is a comparison of different studies on how inmates behave while in prison, after prison and the possible situations and reasons that make the inmates come back to prison. The writer writes carefully on the psychological aspects and behavioral aspect, giving remedies to solutions the inmates face.
There is a clear understanding of the topic. The solutions presented relate perfectly with the problem of recidivism. Solutions are presented by the writer, and they come after the writer had described a diagnosis or a problem in the inmates. The writer presents solutions like therapy and rehabilitation, which are solutions to solve the problem of recidivism. There are recommendations that cover the three fundamental dimensions of counseling, the inmate, the prison institution and the society (Davis, 87).
The writer gives solutions and recommendations to the individual, what prison should do the individual and how the society should react and behave towards the individual. The government is also in the society as an institution. The writer has used different sources and references, and that means that there was proper research though not exhaustive. Comparisons should be made from more than three sources to bring about clarity and understanding form consistency of ideas. The way they are incorporated to the report is good and the citation is also good because there is acknowledgment of the original researchers and writers.
The sources were also quoted where the writer has not used her words to avoid plagiarism. If the author should improve the paper, issues of relativity are critical. The writer should focus on one idea and exhaust it fully. In some concepts and ideas, a blanket description is given which means the writer does not go deep in explaining and exhausting the concept but only gives a rough explanation. For good writing, such shallow descriptions should not exist in a formal written paper (Davis, 103).
The paper responds well to the type of assignment since it is all about correctional counseling and reducing recidivism to individuals. The writer did a collection of information in a good way citing and using different sources that give different ideas about the same topic of recidivism. The writer covers the objectives and goals of correctional counseling. She also provides means and way to reduce cases of prisoners being released from prison and coming back again due to similar or different mistakes within a short time of not more than three years.
In reviewing the paper, as an author, one would want to answer the five fundamental questions of research (Davis, 89). What is happening, and this will cater for the explanation of recidivism, why recidivism occurs and this should be lifted from reliable and relevant sources. The next question is to research on who is mostly affected or the group that is mostly affected by recidivism. An assessment should also evaluate on when recidivism occurs, most and the period when it is common among released inmates.
Then comes the ‘how’ question which will address the strategies to be used to end recidivism and lastly how much resources are required and their nature as well. The writer has made grammatical errors with little emphasis on tenses and sentence structure. The combination of the sentence that includes subject verb object agreement is not well exhausted which results in slow understanding of the intended meaning.Works citedDavis, S.
