Metrics Estimation Analysis and Teams Assignment Assignment Part 20) % You are a newly appointed project manager at Reliable Software Ltd (RSL). You have been asked to produce an evaluation of shareware project planning tools. Construct a set of criteria with associated scales to measure a product’s compliance against the criteria, then carry out an evaluation on three shareware project planning tools and report your results. Your report should include a discussion of your criteria and scales. The compliance assessment criteria should be based on the importance of each stage: Number/ acceptance criteria/ weight/ compliance rating/ weight*compliance rating/ //vendor A/ vendor B/ in-house/ vendor A/ vendor B/ in-house // 1/requirements for application software in use //////// 1.1/ cost estimates should be prefunded/20/3/3/2/60/60/40/ 1.2/ confirmation options/30/1/3/1/20/60/20/ 1.3/ credit extension against the set standards /10/2/3/1/40/60/20/ 1.4 /interface procedure/ 5/2/2/3/40/10/60/ Under this criterion, the production department needs to ensure they are compliant with company needs and they can maintain the quality or increase it to levels which are stated in the production requirement documents. It’s essential noting that with this criteria the production process will tend to be more accurate and the management will be in a position of maintaining the quality details of the firm help in improving the competitive advantage (Lincke, Lundberg & Lowe, 2008). When using the rating system the products needs to be picked at random and checked thoroughly to ensure they are accurate. In case a default is detected the production process should be vouched to ensure they are compliant with the targets set for their operations. The process should be in a state where they can link all parties involved. Part 2 Table 1 defines the information that RSL has captured on previous projects. Table 2 shows the estimates for the equivalent parameters for the components of a new project. Using whichever techniques you wish, generate estimates for the effort required to develop the components of the new project. What reservations would you have in using such data? A new project is expected to have a very high power since there are no in efficiencies that are encountered. The investors Looking at the graph above its evident as the time passes the company is increasing their efforts to ensure they meet their shareholders targets. This is crucial and it helps the firm to avoid misusing their efforts before they can identify their marking opportunities. Therefore, it’s necessary to note that efforts are varied according to the needs surrounding that process and the weight the issue caries (Lincke, Lundberg & Lowe, 2008). On the other hand, its essential noting that no matter what effort is exacted the estimation curve will never be at its maximum accuracy. Still the estimates will never change from estimates to factual. There is no amount of efforts can be added to make the estimates accurate. Part 3 The following page contains data collected from a project at RSL. Provide an analysis report to indicate which components would be of concern going forward. You must provide the details of the graphs and analyses you have used not just an identification of the components. Looking at the graph above products is the going concern for the company. They will remain to be produced as long as the firm remains in operations. A fact is the firm is a going concern and they will meet their operation threshold by delivering their products as they line alive. The first is the initiative process. In this phase, the project is approved and brainstorming occurs to find the best available way to complete the project (Lincke, Lundberg & Lowe, 2008). The second project process phase is the planning process. In this phase, objectives and goals of the overall project completion are defined and refined in order to ensure the goals are achievable and realistic. The third project process phase is executing the process. This is the part of the project management phase where activity to complete the project is actually carried out. The fourth project process is actually carried out through the duration of the entire management process. This is the controlling process and in this part of the process, the project manager ensures that the project is on track to completion by a certain deadline. The final project process phase is the wrap up process. In this phase of the project process, the project comes to an end. The project manager is responsible here for wrapping up the entire process. Part 4 Produce a contingency plan (with fictions information) for a risk of a project overrunning due to failure to access a testing resource in the window when it was available. i.e Originally it was planned you would have access to the testing rig from 1st April to 1st May but due to other delays it is unlikely that you will be in a position to do testing at that point. It’s essential to have a plan which carters for the eventualities. A contingent plan is to ensure in case something wrong happens their operations will still be in operations. Preplanning is used in determining the natures of the market to ensure they are perils are addressed even before they take place. Preplanning is used to ensure all technical issues are addressed even before they arise (Lincke, Lundberg & Lowe, 2008). “Such planning is a management tool, involving all sectors, which can help ensure timely and effective provision of humanitarian aid to those most in need when a disaster occurs. Time spent in contingency planning equals time saved when a disaster occurs. Effective contingency planning should lead to timely and effective disaster-relief operations” (Lincke, Lundberg & Lowe, 2008). The contingency planning process that PRAN follows can basically be broken down into three simple questions: • What will happen? • What to do about the situation? • What should we do before time to ensure we are prepared? “For this purpose, each and every alternative will be evaluated by weighing its pros and cons in the light of resources available and requirements of the organization. The merits, demerits as well as the consequences of each alternative must be examined before the choice is being made. After objective and scientific evaluation, the best alternative is chosen” Lincke, Lundberg & Lowe, 2008).
