TOPIC: SWOT ANALYSIS LECTURER: SWOT ANALYSIS The ambition of providing quality and affordable healthcare is not something that can be achieved by only one person or one institution (Meredith and Shafer, 2014). It is for this reason that there are several stakeholders of health care (Shilite, 2003). According to Petersen and Roehrig, 2001), two important stakeholders of healthcare are government and service providers. For these stakeholders, Shortridge, Oya, Kobayashi and Duggan, 2010) identifies that each of them have their own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat (SWOT).
A summary of the SWOT of the two stakeholders is presented below.GovernmentStrength Weakness1. Possess enforcement legislations to enforce health reforms2. Adequate financial background to undertake health projects 1. Political ambitions surpassing national interest2. Bureaucracy in the release of funds Opportunity Threat 1. Possesses the largest human resource pay in the shape of the public sector workers.2. Access to international funding 1. Stiffer opposition from private sector 2.
Increasing population growth Service ProvidersStrength Weakness 1. Have technical expertise to understand health risk factors 2. Higher success rate to health care provision1. High cost of service2. Limited health facilities, creating congestion in some health centers (Luanda, 2010)Opportunity Threat 1. Low producer price index that promotes cheaper cost of production (Hubalek, 2000)2. Well informed patient population 1. Increasing numbers of old agers (Klenk and Komar, 2003)2. Advancements in alternative medicineFrom the SWOT analysis, it would be noted that each of the stakeholders have their own issues to deal with.
Most certainly, there cannot be a successful healthcare system if any of the stakeholders refuses to play their roles well (Meredith and Shafer, 2014). For this reason, it is admonished that all stakeholders will turn weaknesses into strengths, maximize their strengths, and overcome the threats, whiles taking their opportunities seriously.ReferencesHubalek Z.
