External Factors Affecting International Operations at UPS One of the key external factors to affect UPS in its international operations is the legal and custom requirements. It may not be able to easily move the packages as it can within the States as in international operations, custom authorities check the packages before releasing them therefore issues such as communication, compliance with laws etc are some of the important factors to have an impact on the international operations.How do these factors cause UPS to adjust its operations?

These factors causes UPS to actually adjust its operations in different manner including the customization of the ordering portals, designing procedures to actually ensure compliance with the laws, re-designing of delivery channels as well as the custom duty payments and its collection from the end users. As such there are different procedures which need to be taken into consideration to adjust the operations.What are the inputs, processing and outputs of UPS` s package tracking system? The end to end process involving the capturing, processing, storages and retrieval of the package tracking within the UPS’ system is actually comprised of various points at which this is done.

Firstly, the UPS drivers actually capture the customer signature and other data through handheld devices which capture other data such as delivery, destination and time card information. This information is then subsequently transferred into the vehicle adapter and from there it is uploaded to the main system of UPS. From the main system of UPS, the same data and information can be subsequently accessed worldwide through different information portals such as UPS website.What technologies are used by UPS?

How are these technologies related to UPS’ business model and business objectives? The overall range of technologies used by UPS is relatively diverse in nature and comprises of the handheld devices (DIADs), barcode scanners, wireless communication networks, desktop and laptop computers as well as the storage technologies for package tracking and delivery of data. Apart from this, UPS also has pagers, cellular phone networks as well as package tracking and pricing technologies which effectively formulate the overall information technology system for UPS.

The overall business strategy of the firm is based upon delivering high quality services and the technology effectively corroborate with the strategy of the firm. These technologies actually allow UPS to have smooth data flow while at the same time achieve smooth operations.What problems do UPS’s information systems solve? There are different problems which are being solved by the information system of UPS including its supply chain as well as logistic issues. This system allows UPS to actually manage its supply chain easily including efficient customer handling, freight forwarding, mail services as well as the logistic services.

It is critical to note that these technologies ultimately translate into solving the problems of the customer through timely and accurate delivery of the packages, efficient tracking as well as smooth flow of the operations in the field by allowing delivery personnel accurate information to deliver on right addresses.
