The Problem of Consumer Skepticism The Problem of Consumer Skepticism Major Factors the Inhibit Progress towards Greener Practices There has been a developing consensus over the years for increased care of the environment. The green movement that calls upon companies to make public their eco-friendly practices has facilitated this. However, there are many factors inhibiting development towards greener practices. One might think that any effort made by a company to be eco friendly is well received by those who are concerned about the environment.
For example, Coca Cola’s effort towards greener practices has been faced by numerous setbacks. The bottles are still made of plastic and even though it is recyclable most consumers through them away leading to environmental pollution. Secondly, the green idea is no exception as it has been faced by a huge controversy inhibiting its progress. Although, the idea would have positive impacts on the environment, such as reducing rainwater runoff by 38 percent and minimize heat island impact by 26 percent, there are those who are against the idea.
Critics state that the new by law behind the idea of green rooftops may dampen the efforts of the green movement, as it will limit developers’ options in constructing, as they will be concerned towards making the building eco-friendly thus increase the building costs. Consumer attitudes towards eco-friendly products limit greener practices since most of them are skeptical about paying a high price for these products. In addition to, consumers fail to see the bigger picture when it comes to environmentally friendly practices.
Finally, the green movement has been claimed to have negative impacts economic growth and leads to unemployment. Reasons Limiting the Number of Electric Cars on the Streets Consumers find themselves in a difficult situation as they strive to balance contradicting objectives about certain products. This is widespread in the automobile industry as there is need to sharply reduce harmful emissions by reducing gas-guzzling cars. Electric cars are expensive and therefore most consumers cannot afford them.
On the other hand, automobile companies cannot risk selling their products cheaply owing the current financial problems and the amount of money invested in producing the car. Moreover, consumers do not seem interested in green cars since the gas prices are relatively low and this shifts their interest in green cars to fuel powered cars. Consumers’ Use of Detailed Information Concerning Detailed Information about content of Products I agree with the statement that consumers are struggling to survive the current tough financial situations and fail to pay attention to detailed information concerning the products in the market.
It is clear that consumers will buy a products if is long-term benefits will save them money. The best example is that of the refrigerator. Consumers will buy one that is efficient and saves them money. Concerning the electric car, consumers really do not pay attention to its attributes or its benefits. They pay more attention to the cost of the car that discourages them from spending on it. They prefer spending fuel costs on regular cars that seems to be cheaper. This leads to the conclusion that consumers are more inclined to financial aspects rather than information on the products.
