Industry Investment Recommendations Entrepreneurship in the Aerospace and Defense industry Examining entrepreneurial opportunity and emerging innovation within the aerospace and defense industry is crucial in evaluating the industry’s investment potential. While Boeing remains perhaps the dominant organization in the industry, entrepreneurial activity constitutes some of the most dynamic and important industry development. In this context of understanding, entrepreneurial development must be a prominent area of investigation for industry investors.

Emerging Companies There are a variety of emerging companies in the aerospace and defense industry. One of the prominent of such companies is Zybek Advanced Products, Incorporated. This is a woman-owned engineering system development and manufacturing company. In large part, Zybek’s production develops in terms of NASA space technology. Another prominent emerging company in the industry is Force Protection. This organization has found niche development opportunities through specializing in explosives and ballistics ("Force Protection").

Another prominent emerging company is Spaceworks Enterprises Incorporated (SEI). This organization has worked with NASA and the United States Air Force in product design and innovation. The organization was established in 2000 was John Olds, a tenured professor School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. The organization was named one of the fastest growing engineering firms in 2011 (‘inc’). Opportunities for Innovation and Small Business While the industry is dominated by some of the major players in this industry, including Boeing and Eads NV, and United Technologies Corporation, it has historically been understood that entrepreneurs have made significant contributions to the Defense Department.

In these regards, innovation has oftentimes emerged as smaller defense and aeronautics firms have cooperated with larger firms as a means of developing innovative technology ("Crai") . For instance, smaller defense company Force Protection was credited with the development of the Cougar and Buffalo Mine Resistance Vehicles. Similar production occurred with General Atomics’ Predator unmanned aerial vehicle, and Austal’s multihull high-speed naval vessels ("Crai"). In terms of innovative opportunities the United States Defense industry remains a large-scale spender and need-based innovation in that area, including aeronautic development contains great opportunity for entrepreneurs.

In addition to this opportunity, increased emphasis in future years on sub-orbital commercial flights is an emerging industry. Entrepreneurial defense and aerospace industries that are able to contribute to these developing industries will find growth opportunities as well as future opportunities for collaboration with larger partners such as Boeing or United Technology Corporation. Change in the Competitive Landscape as a Result of Leading Entrepreneurs Some of the greatest change in the competitive landscape as a result of leading entrepreneurs has emerged in terms of foreign defense and aeronautic competition.

One such instance of the change in the competitive landscape emerges from the Mexican Aerospace industry that has increasingly become an attractive investment option for United States investors (Urteaga-Trani). The competitive landscape has also witnessed considerable change in terms of specialization. Companies such as Force Protection, with their focus on ballistics, have found ways to develop market support within the industry. References "Arms and Innovation." Crai. N.p., 2011.
