The Corporate Average Fuel Economy - Assignment Example

I am a single mother, with a four-year-old son. I also have a physical disability which imposes upon me what other persons might call “limitations” or “constraints”. It is not easy for me to go about as able-bodied people do. I am not so rich as to hire people to do things for me. But I always find a way to get things done. In fact, I am pursuing my master's degree in counseling, something many “normal” people will hesitate to even attempt. Is it hard? Yes, it is.

But that is not an excuse for me to just lay back and leave things as they are. I get up every day and do what has to be done because it has to be done.Does Congress have what it takes to get things done, my dear Representative? I am but one small voice among many, so I am counting on you to be my voice. What the big companies hesitate to do has already been done by other countries which have mustered the needed political will. Only we have hesitated, the most powerful country on earth, because we find it too hard to change.

If despite all my disadvantages I can raise my son to be a good citizen of this earth, then I expect that our Congress will find a way to provide him with a portion of this earth in which to thrive that is safe and sustainable.I thank you for the solicitous concern of your constituency. I wish you more power.I am writing to you today about the Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFÉ, bill, which I understand is currently being considered in the House. I feel very strongly about this issue, so much so that I am taking the pains to make my sentiments known to the Congressman I elected to speak on my behalf.

There is no need to raise the fuel economy standards currently in place. To do so would be an exercise in futility because we spend time debating on what standards are best, we forget the real issue – that of seeking sustainable energy sources. Like the philosophers of old, our representatives debate on how many angels can stand on the head of a pin, they forget what message the angels sought to bring.I am a single mother, with a four-year-old son. These have not deterred me from pursuing my goals in life, such as working for my master's degree in counseling while at the same time earning a living for myself and my child. But for me to say that I have no limitations is not practical nor realistic. Of course, I have constraints; in a way, all of us do, disabled or not. The pragmatist assesses his limitations and works within them, in order to produce results that exceed ordinary expectations. For me, money is in short supply, and time is divided among so many things; thus I make it a point to plan more carefully so that I waste neither, and still achieve the end result I aspire for.

Surely Congress aspires to ensure a viable and sustainable environment for generations to come. Much headway is being made in developing alternative fuels on which our cars may run. Ethanol, coco-diesel, even vegetable oil, not to mention solar and electrical energy – our engineers and scientists are making advances in so many fronts that commercial applications are already being explored. These matters would demand more of our time and resources and will yield more productive results than us debating about the gasoline economy.

Fossil fuels are a thing of the past. Let us not dwell on the past. Let us meet the future head-on.I thank you for the solicitous concern of your constituency. I wish you more power.
