Knowledge of such traits will help in placing one at the best possible or optimum role to play for the team. Such optimum role play endeavors to the get full potential of the individual without placing him/her in a defensive or strenuous mode, leading to stress. Personal profiling, to succeed, needs to place an individual in the best possible role in an organization or before making a career choice; personal traits knowledge informs personal career choice that best fits personal traits. The organizational behavior is total of the traits exhibited the individuals.
The behavior forms the organizational culture resulting from how things are done, the processes through which such things are attained and the organizational structure which serves best the organization. The actions of people, individuals, and groups in the process of norming and forming will result in a set of behavior system within the organization. There can never be an organization without one individual, the individuals makes up a group by adding each individual and finally groups forms the organization with a system and structure of doing business (Buchanan & Huczynski, 2010).
There are approaches that can be used in the self-awareness assessment quest by an individual. They include scientific, psychological analysis and personal testing. Own personality testing is rather simple by use of question answer guide about likes and dislikes which progresses to where one wishes to go in life. On the other hand, research in psychology led to a consensus in five personality types; openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. Openness is a trait of having a broad range of interests out of experience featuring high degree of imagination and insight.
Conscientiousness is characterized by foresight, meticulous planning and are organized. These people have a high degree of thoughtfulness and goal-directed results and a good impulse control. Extraversion exhibits sociability, excitability, talkativeness, assertiveness and high amount of emotional expressiveness. Agreeableness personality portrays trust, kindness, affection and are pro-social behaviors at all times. Lastly, neuroticism tends to always experience emotional instability, anxiety, irritability, sadness, and moodiness.
They are always worrying and vulnerable. One of the scientific ways that have analyzed and generally accepted as a way to determine personality trait, is by use of Johari Window. It can be used to determine the level of openness that one can exhibit whilst allowing feedback from teammates to develop a character. If an individual exhibits high level of openness and allows feedback from teammates, he/she will be a successful team player. Johari window has four quadrants each representing a degree of openness that an individual portray.
The first quadrant is called the open self where the character of an individual is known by self, and team members. This type is exhibited be open and established individuals in a group. The second quadrant is the blind self where the character of an individual is unknown to self but known by others. In order to reduce the window, the individual should be in the quest of soliciting feedback and open to criticism. The third quadrant is the hidden self where an individual is aware, but hides from the public.
