? Strategic Plan for a Non-Profit Organization Foundation of Behavioral Health & Services (A Non-Profit Institution) Title of the Organization The title for an organization especially for a non-profit one is a reflection of the theme and purpose the organization is going to work for. Our organization would be a forum for people, facing mental illnesses and disturbance in their lives. On this regard the title set for the organization is “Foundation of Behavioral Health & Services”, a facilitation center for behavioral health and mental stability. Vision and the Cause of Origin Our mental health organization is going to be a behavioral health treatment institution, an institution which facilitates people with mental sickness, instability, or disturbance becoming barriers to face life deepest challenges or dejections. It would be a complete non-profit based organization that provides training and guidance to the people to meet societal challenges like ignorance, mistreatment or discouragement. This stands out as a vision for the organization, a vision to flourish peoples’ lives and their living situations. Plan for Investment and Fund Raising There are many people who would like to see a behavioral health institution to grow and thrive in the states of Indiana, like people in the medical health profession or in the behavioral health services. There are many psychologists, school professors or rehabilitation facilitators who would like to be part of a non-profit mental health institution like ours. These are the ones who can support and raise some funds to develop the organization within the states region. Several counseling schools could also invest on, and for the institution which is just for the people and community, Government would also become part of it to support its special noble cause. Apart from all there are many bureaucrats who can be part of the investment, bringing basal investment which is required to open the doors of the institution and laying the initial foundation. Indiana is one of the largest States in the US having a population of around 6 to 7 million people. Among such huge population there are definitely lots of chances to generate the initial funds and investment required to give a birth to the newer organization. City of Columbus is a mega city of the states of Indiana, where the plan is to set the headquarters of the organization. The city itself can generate a lot of investment in the start, which would be sufficient enough to lay the foundation of the organization. Hierarchy and New Positions To open a non-profit organization which is devoted to a special cause, there is a must need to bring specialists to serve the cause and vision of the organization. For a non-profit behavioral health institution, we would acquire specialists from psychology, psychotherapy, psychiatry or further detailed subjects like co-counseling, cognition or cognitive psychology. All of such departments would be opened for newer positions, for those who are experienced and those holding the fresh diplomas or degrees. Initially there would be three major departments including psychology, psychiatry, and behavioral counseling where each department would be aligned with 6 major working positions. It would be a decentralized structure, where decisions will flow from top to middle level management and then to the executive staff to complete the task. Apart from operational departments, Accounts and Administration would be further functioning department in the setup, which would be responsible for managing the day to day records of the patients. Board of Directors Top leadership plays a crucial role in the functioning of a non-profit organization or institution. Their decisions are effectual for the entire hierarchy structure of the organization. We as foundation of behavioral health and services rely on bright leadership, visionary and thinkers. The team of board of directors include Mr. Robert De Sousa (a specialist in Expressive Psychiatry), James Harmison (past experienced holder in PEAT processing and psychology), and David Brooke (an experienced psychology professional). The team is a pillar of three with a broader vision and enthusiasm to run a non-profit behavioral health institution in Indiana states. The team is determined to work for the people of the States and the Columbus city, where subjects are waiting for their special noble operation. Framework for Leading the Organization At the start the organization will have to face intensified challenges, like challenges of investment, fund raising, or integration of setup. Apart from all there would be some external challenges like meeting the state registration process, developing organizational State policies, enjoining the hierarchy structure and establishing the notions in which the organization is going to work like work policy or quality policy respectively. When all the tasks are accomplished at the starting first quarter, it would make things easier for the organization to grow and compel its direction in the right way. In the initial stage there are two basic things that need to be managed, start up expense and start-up asset respectively. Expense would be according to the assets we acquire which are like laptops, computers, data base system, or the medical record keeping system etc, which will give an idea and estimate of the starting up cost and expenditure. Apart from the cost of resources/assets, the next is to manage the cost of recruitment and the cost of employees which we require on the urgent basis. This is all a step by step procedure for which there is a set-up plan being formulated and developed by the board of directors and the upper management staff. The plan will be put forward to the middle management and then to the entire team of operation to set the things accordingly for the coming aspect of time. Mission Statement Mission statement is a symbol of strength for an organization. It should be a statement, which carries the epitome, the purpose of a non-profit organization like Foundation of Behavioral Health, which is based on purposive submission. “The mission of our organization is to spread the mental health care awareness/solution in the entire population of Indiana State, understanding the need of the populace in terms of psychosis, depression, trauma, mental retardation, mental instability or rigidity cases”. Analysis of the Environment To develop the best organization setup and practices, it is important that leadership understands the system and the environment where the organization is going to start functioning. This is the basic rule which applies to all profit/non-profit organizations. There are certainly different factors like social, economic, cultural or political factors, which put a direct or indirect influence on the organization work structure, which inevitably lowers or degrades the performance of the organization at some point of time. All of such factors need a retrospective analysis to analyze the situation expansively, which is the right effective tool of analysis before the organization jumps into any newer region of operation. Foundation of Behavioral Health & Services is going to be planned out in the city of Columbus, one of the largest growing cities in the State of Indiana. It is the 15th biggest cities of US holding a diversified population of more than 40 countries across the land (Encyclopedia, 2007). This is the situation where mental health cases would be on the intensified level, and may require a special mode of diagnoses, assistance and treatment structure, which our institution would be looking forward to develop on. There are many cases in Indiana recorded on the annual basis, where people commit suicides, conduct murders or carry drug addiction. The cases of child abuse, rape or extortion are also common where people are present with severe mental state and not fear to conduct such violent acts. This is all because of some external influences like unemployment, partiality, social ignorance, discouragement, or underestimation spread out in the entire Indiana region. It is a rural State, where illiteracy is high and so an average person is employed mostly in the labor section, farming or hotels (Encyclopedia, 2007). The trend of quitting education is quite common where most of the teenagers quit at early high school age. Apart from all there are less frequent behavioral treatment centers, not in a number to meet the extensive demand of Indiana State behavioral health problems. The situation is tough and difficult to establish a non-profit organization, a behavioral health institution, but still founders of the organization are determined and self motivated to seed the “Foundation of Behavioral Health & Services” in the region. Holding the vision to serve humanity, the founders are well prepared to lay the foundation of institution in the Indiana State region. Organization Objectives Under the vision of “Foundation of Behavioral Health & Services” here are the key objectives which the organization has devised to work on: The primary task is to raise funds required at the first level of the mental health institution. It is one of the starting tasks which are to be accomplished in the first month period. Another major task is to deploy an effective organization system, a system which is best suited to employee, to moderators and to the patients by themselves within the organization. This would take time but under leadership’s vision and determination it is expected to be achieved in the first six months period. The last major objective is to design the work break down structure, a structure which is according to the building architecture, workers position and location. It includes the recruitment of the specialists belonging to the field of psychology, behavioral health and psychiatry. The long Term Plan and Strategies The long term plan for an organization is very important which is that “Foundation of Behavioral Health” will be a complete success in the region. The success would be evaluated in terms of the service the organization has provided and the number of people who have attained some benefit from the organization itself. The straight away plan for the organization is to evolve with the mission, which is to bring the best mental health solution/cure for the victims in Indiana State. The organization is with an adaptive work approach and a philosophy that welcomes other non-profit institutions to join their hands for the noble cause. This is to bring a combined effort, which is for the people facing the severity of behavioral health problems. In the long term setting, the board of directors has aimed to bring the organization into a position where it can treat maximum patients with maximum capability and potential. This is the mission which is kept in the long term plan of the organization. The plan has been set for a timeline with certain direction and framework, which is to accomplish it in not more than 3 to 4 prospect years of the organization. There have been some important strategies devised by the board of directors and by top management’s suggestion, in order to achieve the three major tasks set for the first quarter of the organization. Here are those strategies with further elaboration: Strategy I & II To achieve the first task which is to raise funds and investment, the organization will apply two major strategies, first is the leverage resource strategy (which will generate the primary funds), and second is funds augmentation strategy (which will add supplementary funds into the capital). The leverage resource strategy will work out in the manner of collecting funds. It would be a source to generate continuous funds from self-determined resources, inclusively from all external partners or supporters. The funds management strategy will work out in the manner of record keeping and adequate management of funds like where the investments came from, when they got received and who was the person behind such investments. Enjoining both the strategies, the organization will be able to generate the starting off investment and its appropriate record keeping and management structure. Strategy III & IV The third and fourth strategies will align the second objective that has been set to develop a system of efficiency, performance, deliverance and human ethics. System design strategy will be the third one to engage. It will analyze the components of organization's structure, in order to develop a communication network, a network of flexible coordination and communication. This strategy will follow a procedure in which the core aspect is to align and integrate the components of the system. The components include decision makers, employees, workers and patients which in overall manner make the system ultimately effective and directional. The fourth strategy will be a system update strategy, which will see the further updates required in the system components like training, development or advancements in the organization structure or its respective fulltime permanent assets like employees or equipment. Strategy V & VI Strategies five and six will correspond to the third major objective of the organization, which is to allocate resources and employees’ position. The fifth strategy will be an infrastructure design strategy, which will locate the furniture, rooms, equipment with respect to the positions assigned to operators and work personnel. The sixth strategy would be a recruitment based strategy. It will set the framework for hiring specialists on the field, including the three primary departments of the organization which are psychology, psychiatry and behavioral counseling. Implementation of Strategies Strategy I & II Implemented To achieve the first major goal the primary and the very starting strategy is the fund raising strategy. The strategy will proceed with few important steps like identification of donors, approaching method to reach donors, and setting a timeline to end the fund raising procedure. In the first step an approach of fish in all ponds is going to be adapted, which means that the organization will try out all the best to reach every donor present at the first level of the organization, which could be prominent and less prominent donors. In prominent donors there are some internal and some external donors like the board of directors, the founders, or the people at the beginning staff who can become the internal donors. Similarly the Government officials, bureaucrats, NGOS, social authorities or social organizations would be on the list of external fund raisers. This is how strategy of funds raising will generate the starting capital required to lay the foundation, and open the first working bench of the organization. The funds management strategy will precede managerial aspects of counting incoming funds and investment. The funds will be recorded on a day to day basis, covering the in-depth information of the donors which is valuable for future respect, and the amount they have contributing which will be phrased on a day to day data tables. All of this will be recorded through an aligned funds management data based system, which will added in organization’s data management system. Strategy III & IV Implemented The third and fourth strategies will address the second major objective, and that is to store a system of team management and coordination. The organization will rely on the system effectiveness, in which the first task would be to bring a productive communication network. It will include intercoms, computer communication setups, telephones and fax machines. By including all such equipment the team of the organization would become integrated and aligned in terms of departments’ decisions and their plans of execution. Apart from the physical frame of work, the organization will bring integrated policies covering the aspect of human ethics and morality. This in overall way will be a time consuming operation, but once the organization is set with it, it will reach the height of success which the visionaries of organization have thought about in coming days. Strategy V & VI Implemented Giving the right place to assets with respect to their position and operation will be part of the fifth strategy, the infrastructure design strategy. It will allocate the position of the equipment with respect to operators and workers. For this strategy a policy for infrastructure design will work out to give a shape to the structure of the organization. The embarking elements of the policy would include the location of headquarters, the furniture, equipment, machines and rooms to follow. The basic design of the building structure, which the management has thought about, is the one with a central department of behaviors, divided in three major sections which are going to be psychology, psychiatry and behavioral counseling. Each of the department will take two respective rooms, in which specialists and workers will be placed with respect to their expertise in the section. In total there will be 8 rooms which are required at the starting stage of the organization. In all of such respect, the downtown of Columbus Ohio is the most suitable location for allocating the building. The location is ideal as there are several 8 room buildings that can be available in the present time. To keep the expenditure limited, it would be an ideal location to start it off with. The last and the most significant strategy is the recruitment strategy, in which experts from all designated subjects will be called off for the interview. The advertisement will be given in news, websites and online portals, which will be with the information of the people we require. It will follow on the areas of psychology, psychotherapy, cognitive co-counseling or expressive psychology. The board of directors will filter the resumes and call the people right suited for the vacancies. This is how the recruitment strategy will adjust the right man to the right job, appropriate for the quality and service of work. Evaluation and Control The most significant thing to carry in a non-profit organization is the evaluation and control process. To bring the most desired outcomes from organization’s system components, it is necessary that strategists implement a sound monitoring and control system. Control is a parallel process, a process which travels side by side with the implemented strategy. For our organization which is to revolve around the challenges, a sound evaluation and control system will be part of the organization. The system will be based on 80/20 rule, in which 80 percent of the performance will be checked and evaluated on the 20 percent of tasks being achieved by the work persons. The control will become possible when the organization is set with a sound team management effort, which is one of the fundamental elements required at a control & monitoring system. The rule of 80/20 will be part of our organization’s work policy, where every person involved in the system would become accountable on such effective preset measure. This is how “Foundation of Behavioral Health & Services” will project maximum performance and treat maximum number of patients in a good aspect of time. Reference List Encyclopedia. (2007). Ohio .
