Canada is the largest producer and exporter of forest products with most of these products coming from the boreal forest that is there and therefore it may not come as a surprise that Canada has an advanced forest industry and also a forest management that is equally advanced. This has not stopped the forest in Canada from being significantly affected by changes that are occurring in the natural disturbances that include wild fire and insect outbreaks that have been taking place in the last few decades (Shvidenko & Apps, 2006).
It is expected that the Boreal forest in particular will be vulnerable to disease, fire and competition from other tree species as the climate changes continue to be experienced and the weather gets warmer but the natural replacement in forest will take some time (Louiseize, 2005). Fire spread is not only a function of weather, but it also depends on topography, fuel load, types and spatial arrangement as well as active suppression and this therefore means that the fire spread simulations for everyday fire management require a large amount of information that is site specific (Pueyo, 2007).
Being able to predict future fire activity that is related to climate change is a leap towards appreciating the future state of the Boreal ecosystem since the natural disturbances are usually controlled by the interplay between biotic and abiotic factors. Forest fire is the dominant natural disturbance that exists in Canada’s western Boreal forest where the fire regime of a particular area reflects the integration of ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Canadas Boreal Forest and Gloeophyllum Sepiarium

... Species: G. sepiarium 2. Where does the organism live (In the trunks of oaks trees, in ocean water that receives sunlight etc) The organism lives on woods such as conifers and firs and in rotting wood usually on the forest floor in single growth or grouped habitat. 3. How does it get its nutrition (heterotroph, photoautotroph, carnivore, etc.) As with all fungi G. sepiarium is heterotrophic, it is an organism that is part of a food chain. Fungi decompose dead organic matter, attack living plants and produce as with G. sepiarium wood rots. This organic matter is then returned to the soil it is an important contributors to the break down of wood in the forest and the recycling of nutrients as well as soil improvement. G... Lisa...

How does consumers' perception influence brand equity

...How does consumers perception influence brand equity? To start with, advertising and marketing is all about conveying a single, unified message downto the target audience in a manner which meshes along well both with the client’s budget as well as the aspirations and expectations of the people for whom the brand is being marketed or advertised. It is formed on the basis of psychological and physiological movements which are studied by the advertising and marketing people so that the client (the company people) also remain happy and their business flourishes in the longer run. However, to get this very message down to the intended people is not an easy job to start with. It needs to be...

Forest Conservation

...What is the ideal definition of forest conservation? What has been the meaning and idea behind calls for conservation of forests in Canada? Do we need to move towards sustainable harvest or is the protection of natural resources and wild species more important? Are conservation of natural resources like timber and wild species contradictory with sustainable development of well being of the common mass? In this context, what can we say about the Boreal Forest? Forest conservation can be defined as an integrated, well developed process of protection, preservation, management and restoration of forest. Time...

Forest Fire Danger

...Forest Fire Quite a number of forest fire danger rating systems have been designed across the world including that developed by the United s of America. The main purpose of a forest or wildland fire management is to provide a means by which resources can be appropriately allocated to a country or region on daily basis (Taylor & Alexander, p2). This is done based on facts such as existing and forecasted levels of danger of a fire in a place. Fire danger measures are useful in providing data or information that is vital in making fire management decisions. Outputs from fire danger rating systems can be used for prevention planning, preparedness planning, detection planning, initial attack dispatching, fire behavior evaluation just... system...

Tree-Species Density across Environmental Gradients Zones

.... This is presumably due to the leaves trapping water, increasing its availability at the most critical time in a tree’s lifecycle. (Albrecht, et al. 2009) But litter on the forest floor is also influenced by decomposition rates, which can in turn influence tree growth, as described above. Bryophytes and Lichens have great variability in decomposition, with Bryophytes on average exhibiting a lower rate than either lichens or most vascular plants. All these factors influence the available soil, which in undeniably critical in the growth of survival of the target tree species across the three principal...

Diversity within the Human Species

...Biological and Genetic Diversity al Affiliation Biological and Genetic Diversity The world contains a diversity of animal and plant species with different biological and genetic characteristics that distinguish them from one another (Hocking, 2009). Therefore, organisms from different species behave differently, interact and contribute to the surrounding world differently, and they have different needs. Genetic and biological diversities have also been evident within the same species of organisms (Hocking, 2009). This discussion will consider biological and genetic diversity within the human...

The Boreal Forest

...Boreal Forest Various Opinions Provided in the Case Study This case study highlights the changes that have been experienced by Boreal Forest since the time of industrialization. The ecological structures such as the dead trees, deciduous trees and large trees have been confiscated from the boreal forest. Some of the natural processes like fire have also been suppressed due to industrialization leading towards the degradation of ecosystem, even in the reserve areas of forest. Many of the species that are directly or indirectly dependent...

How Does IT Influence Business

.... This means that business personalities are able to transact their businesses across any geographical location (Rowland & Kohl, 2012). Furthermore, the evolution of the internet, with search engines such as Google has made it possible for business executives to look for information, regarding their target market, and competitors. This is an aspect referred to as market research. It is virtually impossible for any business organization to succeed in a given market without having knowledge on the various needs of its customers, and the rates of competition that the organization under consideration would face. This helps a company to come up with a better strategy on how to win its target market, and beat off...
