Daisy’s Wishes In 1994 at a tender age of sixteen, I was taken to children’s home. I became a rape victim at a young age,and the court recommended that I move from my parents’ home. Daisy (Mum) was the woman in charge of raising the children placed in her home. There were four children in the foster home already when I got there. I was the oldest Child in the home, which bestowed more responsibilities to me. I had to change diapers, bathe children, cook and help in the other chores. Daisy, my foster mother, decided to add older girls to the home and later we were sharing the chores. As I was growing up, Daisy used me frequently as an example for the rest of the girls in the house. I could not go anywhere without her accompanying me. My boyfriend at that time had to visit me at the house with my mother seating next to us. I strictly followed all the rules and respected my mum’s wishes. Two years later, I graduated from high school and felt that it was time for me to move on. I had plans to become a flight attendant and travel across the world. Two months after graduating from Juan Quirindongo Morell High School, I got pregnant with my daughter Sandra. It was a sad and tough experience since I was not yet ready to become a parent. Daisy was supportive of whatever decision I made. I decided to become a single mother with the love and support of her, a decision that she fully supported. Nevertheless, deep inside I became ashamed of myself. I wanted to be successful in life without any child at a tender age, living rationally until a mature age fit to get married. Juan Santana was the man responsible for my pregnancy. I regard him as a sperm donor since he impregnated me out of lust and not love. He tried persuading me to marry him because I was carrying his child, a proposal that I repeatedly rejected. I decided to stay in my mother‘s house for the remainder of my pregnancy period. After giving birth to my daughter Sandra, I looked for three jobs to help support, care for her, and pay my mother for babysitting her. The responsibilities were too much with little sleep, but I had all the love and support of family. I strived to impress and make mother proud, as she perceived me to be strong individual. A few years on, I met an old boyfriend, Christian whom I had dated in the middle school while I was in America. Christian and I engaged in a long distance relationship until he proposed to me in front of the white house. Excited to become his wife I sold everything I had and moved to Beacon NewYork. I found a job and an apartment new location, and the relationship continued. Christian and I set a date to get married on March 18, 2006, but I had forgotten to bring all my legal papers with me. I called my mother Daisy to inform her that I was flying back to Puerto Rico to collect my legal papers in her possession. The legal papers were vital in the processing of our marriage. On arrival back, I found out that mother had been lying in a hospital bed because of a surgery that she never wanted to let me know. It was hard to look at her in that position. She kept on bleeding, and it was not normal for a doctor to send a patient home in the same condition. I had asked her the seriousness of the surgery, but she claimed that it was not serious and that she would soon be okay. I asked her husband William if he knew what was going on, and he said she was fine. The response did not satisfy me, and therefore I decided to call the doctor to seek clarification about mother’s condition. The Doctor said that William was in denial. Dr Ramirez explained that my mother had cancer. William and the doctor decided to operate on her to remove it but failed to complete the surgery because it was too late. The cancer had spread everywhere, and the best decision was to close her up and send her home with the family to die in peace. Dr Ramirez explained that Daisy did not know she was dying because her husband did not want to let her know. I cried and could not bear the thought of losing her. I sat next to her and talked about all type of things. I involved a nurse’s services in taking care of her twenty-four hours a day. I took a flight back to the state to get all her papers in order and ran back to Puerto Rico. When I returned to Puerto Rico, my mother Daisy was back in the hospital waiting for me not knowing the truth about her condition. She knew deep inside that she was wrong. Daisy told me that the only one she would trust to take care of my little sister Iris was me. I promised mum that I would take care of my baby in case anything negative happened to her. I became furious at God since I could not comprehend how a good woman like her could be dying. Pressure piled on me based on what mum had told me. The news was painful for me to bear in addition to being hard to express. The thought of telling my fiancé that I had the obligation of caring for my sister was unbearable. After having a conversation with my mum, I told her that I would use the restroom even though I would not take long. When I returned, the nurse was in my mum’s room, and I guessed automatically that she had died. Suddenly, the pain overburdened my heart and I broke down screaming in the hospital room. I just could not believe that mum had passed away. I only stepped away from her for a few minutes, I failed to confess to her how much I loved her. That night I went to the mother’s house and decided to sleep in my mum’s bed. I had three tricky issues in my mind, first how would I break the news to my eleven-year-old little girl. The second worry was how I would tell my fiancé that I had to return to the state with a significant responsibility that mum passed to me. The last concern was how I would get the money for her burial. It was a lot to take in a night. I slept for a few hours, and the weight started bearing down. I was able to divide the expenses between Daisy’s immediate family members and a few days later returned to the states. I left my little sister behind in Puerto Rico. It was hard, but I was not married yet or had my fiancé approval yet. As earlier planned, I got married on March 18, 2006 with Christian Toro. At the time, I was living a princess fairy tale. The wedding was beautiful, my family was there to support me. Christian and I started having problems soon after we moved to North Carolina with my daughter Sandra. It was an unusual side of him that I had never seen. He was very insecure and jealous of my family. It was hard to understand that after I had thought of life finally moving towards a good direction after the loss of mother, it was falling apart. We only had been married for six months when I asked for the divorce. My marriage was over and now once again I had to work excessively to provide for my daughter. I decided to remain in North Carolina and became more independent. I lived in a small apartment with a car that broke down every instance. I made it on my own and wished my mum was alive to witness it. Biography of Langton Hughes Langton Hughes was born on February 1, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri as an African American child. Hughes grew up under the care of his grandmother Mary while his mother Carrie looked for a job. After his grandmother had passed away, Hughes returned to live with his mother Carrie, and attended Cleveland, Ohio High School. Hughes was one of two students in his English class that were African American. He was chosen to become the class poet because African American people had rhythm. Hughes explains that he was a victim of Stereotype (Bloom 37). In high school, Hughes was in charge of writing the school paper, yearbook and later on started to write his first stories, poems and some plays. During this transition is when he discovered how much he enjoyed all the books. After completing his high school studies, Hughes went to Mexico to live with his father with the hope that the father would assist him to obtain admission to Colombia University. Sadly, the father did not support Hughes dream, instead the father wanted him to join an engineering school. They both came to a compromise and Hughes went to Colombia University to study engineering and maintained a B average (Bloom 6). Quickly Hughes became part of the Harlem’s community, He wrote The Negro Speaks of Riversin 1921. All the people knew Langston Hughes as a legendary writer, and he wrote for the average person.
