Sustainable Community Design The process of environmental degradation has bothered me since my childhood. As a result, I have always wanted to be able to make a difference by helping the society and people find the right way to combat, and adopt a non-polluting energy efficient life style. Sustainable community design is in fact the bedrock of modern society. It allows society to maintain the process of harmonious living with the environment. As a consequence, it has a big impact on every one’s lives.

When I view the world around me through the lens of sustainability, I begin to gradually fathom how unwise short term trade-offs produce waste in terms of lost energy, excessive material consumption and toxic by-products. Addressing the consequences and effects of non-sustainability is a serious matter in the modern world. Resource demands driven by want and needs of both developing and developed nations will continue to rise and increase (Churchill, Pg. 20). This will call for a sustainable approach to management and development of the built environment.

Consequently, the design of future infrastructure has to be more robust, resilient and durable. Sustainable community design does not simply focus on individual improvements, but it extends to their overall impact on the societies they serve. As such, the study of sustainable community design will equip me with multidisciplinary skills and knowledge in aspects of ecologically sound settlement design. To produce resilient energy efficient and regenerative societies calls for experts who have a solid background in traditional engineering and architectural knowledge.

Moreover, the professionals must possess a holistic understanding of the built environment systems based on a multi-disciplinary approach. To master the art of sustainability approaches, I have to undertake this program (Sustainable Community Design).
