The developments in architecture make a statement not only in practicality and in lifestyles needs for a particular time frame. There is also a direct association with the architecture with a link to lifestyle, culture, social order and specific needs within the various areas. When looking at the architecture of Turkey, it is noted that the development of the landscape as well as the historical, religious, cultural and home areas were all developed to create a specific understanding of architecture.
The research project will examine the different pieces of architecture which are associated with Turkey from the past as well as the present changes which have been developed. This is furthered with the present architecture in Turkey which is examined with the historical affiliations and contemporary changes as a part of culture. The concept of architecture in contemporary times in Turkey then will look at the contemporary artifacts and how this can both hold to the past culture while examining the future artistic works of architecture.
Chapter One: Introduction The expressions of architecture have changed throughout time and have formed a different approach to the ability to represent a specific culture or time frame. When looking at the architecture of Turkey, it is noted that alterations in styles have been made to architecture and the approach which is taken throughout time. The architecture has become a continuous evolution of the expression of the culture and the use of space within given segments of the area. The concept of architecture is one which combines aesthetics, cultural meaning, symbolism and socio – economic factors that are a part of each time frame (Urey, 2010: 15).
Examining how this has altered through time and the influences that are continuing to evolve with architecture creates a deeper understanding of what is required with the architecture that is used. The ability to understand what tradition means, how this affects the contemporary time frame and how this relates to a given culture, such as Turkey, then establishes a deeper meaning and understanding of the evolution of architecture. 1.1 Aims and Objectives This research study will examine the concept of architecture in Turkey and how it has transformed through time.
