Rhetorical Analysis based on the rhetoric of a SPECIFIC web site(s) that writes about creationism and, or evolution. Introduction Rhetoric Analysis is used to describe the way in which writers use words to influence a particular audience. In this case, the analysis could be used to define the way in which the creation and or evolution has influence on the target audience through explanations of their various parts. Identifying the target audience There are various ways in which National Centre for Science Education (NSCE) has used in identifying the target audience. NCSE is a non profit organization that provides information and resources to schools, parents and concerned citizens who are working to ensure that there is an improvement and support of education in evolution, change in climate, science nature and the general increment of public understanding of the subjects (NCSE). Through their website, the centre has been able to identify their target market which is the main audience who happen to be the teachers thereby ensuring that the knowledge put on their website will be put through to the students by teachers through educating them on the issues that concern science and the science world. This is mostly done before the launch of the website although hit is a continuous process that goes beyond the launching into actual hosting with the help of the marketing fraternity. Moreover, the centre has been able to determine the size of its target market-who are mostly teachers and other concerned parties. They are sure that the teachers in public schools are growing with the increase of pupil in school hence facilitating the education of science and science world, which is their main aim as a centre. Through their website, it is evident that (NCSE) has been able to meet their mission and purpose especially with the fact that the information put is been used by the audience appropriately. Identifying with the target audience The NCSE has been able to identify with the teaching fraternity all over the world since it was started over three decades ago, by ensuring that there is a production of a series of publications, which report on the creationism and or evolution controversy as well as providing resources for activists, which in this case are the teachers and other concerned parties. In essence, it has been able to give a wide coverage of all aspects of science that revolve around these theories. Additionally, NCSE has been able to bring teachers and activists together for a common goal. Members have the privilege of having printed, which help the share knowledge to other people. Getting the point of view, across to a specific audience NCSE has been able to pass its message to the audience in several ways. First, the centre has been able to give information and help to people who have been faced with local challenges especially in teaching of the good science by giving advices on how to manage and placing referrals to those with similar problems. Second, is to ensure that they have communicated to the public for education purposes through the media based on giving material or information to the media, who are covering such events. Third is offering assistance that is required to the educators by participating in answering questions for the teachers, holding workshop and educational conferences. How the rhetorical styles or approaches differ between creationism and evolution In an attempt to define evolution, The National Centre for Science Education is seen to use didactic tone in convincing the audience about its devotion in defending the teaching of evolution in public schools. In fact, a sense of superiority for the audience and the centre is created when the centre points outs that its mission is vital because of evolution’s central importance to the conceptual foundations of modern biomedical, life, and earth science. Their argument on what evolution is entails emphasis of the fact that evolution is a scientific theory. Conversely, on the side of creationism, the main focus is on what creationism is not, and, which clearly indicates that creationism is the opposite of the evolution. In fact, The National Center for Science Education is categorical that creationism did not develop by natural selection, which is associated with evolution. However, although there is a likelihood of differing concepts of evolution and creationism, the use of didactic tone is seen to be applied by the two institutions. The National Center for Science Education indicates that it has demonstrated that the proper development of science, in this case, study of mankind, exhausts God as creator. What is obvious and what is less obvious It is apparent that evolution is a science theory that explains the emergence of new varieties of living things both in the past and present. It is also obvious that evolution is not a theory of origin while creationism involves the study of origins. According to The National Center for science Education, what is less expected is that one can accept what science teaches and practice religious teachings. This is supported by the argument that theologians and scientists have religious traditions and their views are compatible with evolution. Symbolism used The first page on creationism is introduced by a picture with a background of a human skeleton. In relation to what creationism is, the picture can be argued to have some hidden meanings. For example, it would be expected that in evolution, several pictures indicating evolution stages be expressed. On the other side, on the first page on evolution, centre uses several pictures of butterflies, which could be analysed to indicate what evolution entails. NCSE is non profit organization that provides information and resources to schools, parents and concerned citizens. Conclusion The centre has been able to determine the size of its target market-who are mostly teachers and other concerned parties. NCSE has been able to identify with its audience by production of a series of publications. NCSE has also been able to pass its message through offering assistance to teachers, educating the public through the media. The National Center for Science Education is seen to use didactic tone in convincing the audience about its devotion in defending the teaching of evolution in public schools. Their argument on what evolution is entails emphasis of the fact that evolution is a scientific theory. The centre differentiate creationism from evolution by arguing that creationism did not develop by natural selection, which means it’s the opposite of evolution, which is associated with natural selection. Symbolism is seen when a picture of a single human skeleton is posted on the first page of creationism. The other one is the use of several pictures of butterflies, which could be analysed to indicate what evolution entails. Works cited: The National Center for Science Education.
