Scene analysis Question Film (Raise the Red Lantern) Scene: The segment begins when the main actor, Songlian, leaves her family after the death of his mother and disownment by her step-mother and ends when she (Songlian) is offered to the master after a series of ritual procedures (YouTube). Question 2: Describe the production and form in as much detail as you can. The film’s production takes place in China and is aimed at representing the warlord era. The chosen scene includes the ‘lighting the red lanterns’ due to its opening nature of the film.
The scene provides the understanding of the future trends in the film due to its nature, production and setting. The scene takes place in Chen’s home, a wealth wealthy Chinese tycoon with three more mistresses in his household (Maslin). Based on sounds effects, the producer has utilized love and cultural music backgrounds that provide the audience with similar themes to those presented by the characters. Why is the content of this scene important? The scene offers the audience with an insight of the themes and characterization aspects in the movie.
The segment also provides a general overview of the film due to the presence of the main characters and an example of what happens to most of the mistresses after joining the royal family. Visual themes (Mise en scène) have also had the effect of providing a perfect scene in terms of costumes, lighting, design and color (Maslin).
