Obamacare in Sicko - Movie Review Example

Granted that the cost subsidies would put the health insurance companies out of business and maybe the doctors will earn less under the system but isn't the idea of healthcare to “help” people become well or prevent their illnesses? Isn't it the job of doctors to “do no harm” under the Hippocratic Oath? None of that is happening under the American system of healthcare at the moment so yes, it may not be cost-effective for the bottom line of the insurance companies and doctors who are used to fleecing their clients, but it is what will be in the interest of their patients and should, therefore, be done for them.

I would definitely like to initiate the British form of universal healthcare in America. That is because nobody is turned away from the hospitals, the care is given without question, and the medicine is subsidized at a flat rate cost that is affordable to the working class and free to the retirees and jobless who do not stop needing medical care or medicines just because of their age or situations. That is why I would definitely be willing to sacrifice the quality of healthcare for the quantity of healthcare.

Imagine, being able to get the tests that you need albeit in a schedule in Canda, while you need to wait for health insurance approval for the test in the United States and most likely get denied the procedure anyway. It seems like a no-brainer in that instance. The test will get done, you just need to wait your turn as opposed to “the tests might get done if the insurance company approves it.” That is why I am not satisfied with the cost of healthcare in this country. The high insurance premiums do not translate into the services being approved for my benefits.

Let us also not forget that the quality of healthcare received depends upon the approval of the insurance company. I definitely am not satisfied with that either. Obama never had a serious healthcare plan for America and only mentioned it at a political gathering for want of something to say. Unfortunately for him, he was held to that statement by the public, even more, unfortunate for the public, the idea of mandated healthcare for all is also one of the worst ideas to ever come out of the White House.

His idea for universal coverage is right up there with the deal struck between Nixon and Kaiser Permanente that started this whole HMO mess. I feel that the solution to our healthcare problem is simple, dissolve the HMO system and adopt the socialist-style of healthcare coverage. As Michael Moore said, if they are doing something that is better, then we should copy it. This assignment was quite enlightening and I thoroughly enjoyed working on it because I learned a great deal about universal healthcare and what it truly means.

Unfortunately, it also meant that I came to the realization that Obamacare and any other healthcare program in the United States are not universal at all.
