Important Individuals in the Invention of Photography: Renaissance to the 20th Century Galileo Galilei Galileo was an Italian astronomer. His contribution to photography is he studied photographic pictures of Venus and its moons. Sir William HerschelWilliam Herschel was a German astronomer of the eighteenth century. Just like Galileo his contribution to photography is mostly concerned with studying planets and stars through the use of a telescope.

Sir John HerschelSir John Herschel was the first to use hyposulphite of soda for his photography. He made his technique famous through publishing it in papers. This was after the Daguerreotype technique. Amphitype was a paper process suggested by Sir John Herschel (Tissandeir & Thomson 78). He was fascinated by the works of Daguerre and contributed almost ten years of his life fixing the problems with the camera obscura.

Louis Jacques Mande DaguerreLouis Jacques Mande Daguerre was born in 1787, also known as the father of photography. He was an artist and a physicist. He was famous for his work on daguerreotype photography. François AragoArago, born in 1786, was not a photographer himself but he advocated for photographer’s works, such as winning the award for Jacques Daguerre. William Henry Fox TalbotTalbot, born in 1800, was an English photographer, the inventor of calotype process. He is also regarded for contributing to photography as an artistic medium.

He worked to fix the problems with the camera but his aim was to fix it on paper (Tissandeir & Thomson 75). Hippolyte BayardBayard, born in 1801, was a French photographer, known as among the pioneers of photography. He invented his own photographic technique known as positive direct positive printing. NadarOriginal name Gaspard-Felix Tournachon, born in 1820, was a French photographer. He is famous for his balloon photography, the first person to take aerial photographs. Edward MuybridgeMuybridge was a nineteenth century English photographer.

He was famous for his photographic research on motion and its picture projection. George EastmanEastman was a nineteenth century innovator and an American entrepreneur. He is regarded as the person who helped made roll films and photography famous. Louis and Auguste LumiéreLouis Lumiere and Auguste Lumiere, born in France, are known as history’s earliest filmmakers. Charles Wheatstone and Sir David BrewsterCharles Wheatstone was the Fellow of the Royal Society and an inventor. He is famous for his Wheatstone bridge, and instrument that measures the resistance of an object.

He is also famous for his photometer, a device for comparing two lights for their intensity. One of the first stereoscopes offered to public was by Wheatstone (Tissandeir & Thomson 288). He validated Sir David Brewster’s opinion that by the end of nineteenth century, science will have a device capable of singing and talking.
