Introduction
The study of culture and food, with a certain focus on gourmet cuisine, normally referred to as gastronomy, is one area that has played a major role in tourism for a very long time (Allen, 2007). Even though it is considered as a tourism product, gastronomy has been in existence since. Without a doubt, gastronomy is the largest economic events or activities in the world as it is one thing that can be found in any place, regardless of race, culture or geography. Gastronomy has been present since time in memorial, and speaking the truth, gastronomy will ever remain even when other macro economical events or activities begin to fade away (Wolf, 2006). The cooking world has become more and more high-tech as time goes and the new methods and styles have taken the cooking principles to a whole new level (Gary, 2007).
Wholesale market excursion
Market excursion means a lot especially to people who love visiting places to enjoy local fresh farm produce. With the coming up of new restaurants, new concepts of cooking have been introduced, where exploration and inquiry have become the main means of understanding the present status and the future of cookery. In the past, travel was a leisure interest that was open to very few people but in the recent past it has become a field which has attracted many and it has become almost daily activity that is practiced by many people (Lindsey, 1985). Due to mass tourism or increase in the number of people visiting places locally and worldwide, tourism industry has been forced to come up with new and specialized events or activities to meet the needs of all travelers.
The food industry is considered to be the industry that benefited the most from changes that came up due to introduction of new activities into tourism industry; the whole food tasting experience was turned into something else so unique and more interesting than just food and eating. Dedicated guides for instance “Guia Michelin” have a very strong worldwide influence and a good number of not just loyal but constant clientele. People from across the world visits particular places because they know exactly what they will find or they want to experience the interesting things in those places. As a result of tourism, most people or tourists to be exact, converge in Australia to explore the Australian markets.
Fascinating Australian Markets
Adelaide Central Market
This is the most visited market in Australia because it has a variety of things that tourists would like to see. It is a kind of a market designed in such a way that tourist will never miss anything; it is well equipped with restaurants, stalls and cafes. It has various kinds of food under one roof and there is no-where else to find such a well-designed market. Both the local tourist and international tourists visit this market on daily basis to buy fresh farm produce (Gary, 2007).
Adelaide Showground Farmers’ market is the best place and the most important Adelaide organization. Most tourist consider this place the best spot to visit on a Sunday morning to have a cup of coffee as they buy fresh vegetables, fruits and produce directly from producers, farmers and growers. It is only in this place where children can enroll for classes to learn how to cook or learn the best way to start a small fruit or vegetable garden (Robert, 1985). This kind of program came into existence in this place as a result of tourism because they saw a need to of giving their customers or visitors the best treatment in the world (Wofl, 2006). Apart from fresh fruits and vegetables, tourist can also enjoy other food in Adelaide; seafood, meat, bakery products nuts, gourmet cheeses and sweets are among the variety of food that tourist can enjoy.
Melbourne’s Food markets that resulted from tourism.
Brisbane, Queensland- Is where people can do shopping for local fresh seasonal farm produce and fresh foods (Wolf, 2006).
Queen Victoria Markets- It is a place that has its own uniqueness in terms of what it has to offer to the people visiting this area. It has shops that sell deli goods, short-term stands spruik non-chemical wines, fowl and fish, handy pulled candy-canes, and live ducklings ((Erick, 2006).
Dandenong Markets- Is a kind of a market worth schlep. It is where tourist can find any kind of mother-loving spice, grain and seed from India to Ethiopia and Afghanistan. It offers what is considered as Melbourne’s most customarily diverse food. This market is fully loaded with traditional Turkish food and bananas.
Prahran Market- In this market, one will find exotic nut vendors, mushroom sellers, goose merchants, all of whom are the best experts in their areas of specialty.
Slow Food Melbourne Farmers’ market- This is where all seasonal fresh farm produce can be obtained directly from the farmers that deliver them (Allen, 2007).
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory-
As a result of tourism, Canberra offers almost anything that a tourist can think of; this ranges from fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood, cheese and meat. It is only here where people can enjoy traditional local food.
Hobart, Tasmania-
Here, what attracts tourist is the uniquely fresh Tasmanian produce and the tradition of drinking coffee under the sun umbrellas as they buy their Tasmanian organic apples, fruits and vegetables (Gary, 2007).
Rungis Market, France
Rungis is considered to be the largest wholesale market worldwide for fresh farm produce. As tourist destination site, Rungis started as small market where locals used to sell and buy fresh farm produce but that had to change due to changes that came with tourism activities. Tourists from across the world converge in Rungis to purchase not only the local farm produce but even those imported from other countries. Meat, fish, cheese, fresh flowers and even fresh vegetables and fruits are sold in Rungis every single day in large quantities. Rungis as a wholesale market gained its popularity through tourism. If it wasn’t for tourism, Rungis would not have gained its current status. The vegetables and fruits hall here is the largest in the world; all kinds of vegetables and fruits are available and for that reason everyone goes there to shop for fresh food. Due to its popularity, traders come from all destinations in the world to buy and sell fruits and other products.
Cooking schools
People across the world especially those with interests in learning how to cook various kinds of food, became more and more interested in enrolling for cooking classes due to increase in the number of tourists (Joe, 2008). This came with interest in learning how to cook all types of food such as Asian food, Chinese food, African food, Italian food and French food (Bob, 2008). With the ever growing admiration of gastronomic travel, including creative or imaginative dining experiences, cooking illustration and classes, winery visits, shopping for regional unique specialties and food festivals has prompted many restaurants, shops and resorts to come up with new and sensational culinary adventures (Robbins, 2008). While quite a number of culinary experiences have been obtainable for serious foodies for several years, a good number of the current recreational cookery programs or classes are suited for vacationers or tourists of all capacity levels. The set-ups of cookery classes range from short illustrations or half day lessons for those individuals who are interested in including a culinary involvement in their program to multiple day destination resort packages that are well-designed for tourists with interest in a complete immersion cookery travel experience.
Almost all culinary classes consist of an occasion to taste the food prepared or, in many circumstances people are given a chance to appreciate a full meal with wine or fermented grape juice combinations at the end of the lessons (Rossario, 2000). To take the experience of culinary into a whole new level, many cookery organizations are taking time to invest in innovative certified teaching kitchens, featuring personnel top of the line cookery stations. An event schedule in most circumstances involves exceptional programs with guest chefs who are renowned worldwide and time to time menus, in addition to habitually arranged cookery lessons. It is very true that cooking classes fascinates tourists of all ages and provides a great way for families (consisting of younger family members in packages planned for children), guy friends, girlfriends and couples to appreciate spending some time together during holidays in any given season. Tourists to the southeastern part of United States are in a position to explore regional unique specialties such as barbecuing, Southern desserts, low country cookery as well as new and exciting cooking methods or techniques and international cuisine.
