Lobster Lobster has remained a tourism in Maine Lobster festival. This event attracts local and international visitors who wish to experience the slow cooking of fresh lobster in large transparent containers. The lobsters are picked fresh from the sea and placed for public selection and immediate preparation for a meal. The slow and dreadful boiling of the lobster is considered a cruel treatment which forms the basis of arguments on human moral values towards nature. Critical evaluation of biological and anatomical concepts surrounding lobster and their painful experience during the festival evokes emotions. In the spirit of humanity, Animal rights activists are concerned about this trend on other animals across the world (Flynn 67). This discussion is a blend of moral obligation of man in protecting other animals, scientific research on pain and remedial measures towards the painful ordeal of the lobsters as they provide entertainment and form core of tourists’ meals in events like MLF. History of lobster It is worth to note that as early as 1800s, lobster was considered an inferior meal meant for the poor in the society. This was basically attributed to its significant abundance that was characterized by widespread consumption among the people who could not afford alternative meals. Besides, taxonomy concepts classify lobster as close to insect that live in water with an ugly and monster structure. In that regard, it is worth to note that this animal has historically faced cruelty in definition and handling by humanity. In the present time, lobster is a meal preserved for the wealthy in the society. Taking the case of MLF, it can be seen that lobster serves a key role in attracting masses to party, dine and wine at the expense of the organism. This sea creature has undergone revolutionary recognition in all negative aspects in its interest. This can be shown from the previous association with the low class and eventual mistreatment to entertain the affluent. Lobster is just among the few creatures that have suffered from the irresponsible habit of man towards other animals and nature in general. It is therefore important to note that use of lobster acts as a mere case study for which the degree of cruelty towards non-human organism has reached (Gullone 35). This discussion will focus on the difficulties that surround animal rights activists towards restoring sanity in humanity towards the fair treatment of other animals. Emergence of such events like MLF has therefore attracted criticism from various quarters of government agencies and non-government organizations that campaign against boiling the lobsters. Animal cruelty The debate on animal cruelty has been raging across the world. It has been noted as an issue of increasing concern as the world move towards socio-economic and political reforms. In the context of moral responsibility of man to take care of nature, animal cruelty has been highlighted as central. It is worth to note that Lobster consumption and its tourism related significance in parts of the United States takes center stage. Critical analysis of the sea side parties and tourism centers around lobster eating the entertaining mode of execution (Wallace 64). However, the point of concern is the way in which this animal is cooked or rather killed. In this text, the author seems to give multidimensional viewpoints on the continued mistreatment of lobster through the organization of such events like MF. The subject is given a strong background that touches on the diverse scientific theories about the pain and how it applies on lobsters. It is acceptable that the creature is served as it is a key delicacy across the world but the method of cooking it is what raises questions. As indicated in the text, the visitors are offered opportunity of observing the behavior of the lobsters from the time they are captured as they boil under strong heat. While other people propose that alternative methods of killing lobster, the problem is in understanding the process by which this creature senses and endures pain. Besides, lobsters are considered sensitive to overcrowding and would vent their anger to any intruder through scratching them using claws. It therefore obvious that the common habit of pooling lobsters together provokes merciless attack among them in which they claw off each other. The act of human-initiated conflict through bundling the lobsters together for visitors to choose, amount to cruelty as they turn against each other. Although lobsters are not human beings, their nervous system is structured to take pain stimuli and therefore suffers while being boiled or steamed to make food. A blend of the processes involved in collecting and eventual cooking of the lobster require critical assessment to create awareness in the entire society as far as the interest of other animals are concerned. Moral aspects of the case Past research studies have indicated that man must take the interest of other animal s seriously. Although other creatures may not have the ability to make decisions on their rights, it is the moral responsibility of man to address this issue. From any point of reasoning, each creature has the ultimate right to life. In that respect, the animals may not have the ability to dictate their desires but man has historically been vested with the power to protect. It is unfair to exploit other creatures to serve the pleasure of man even in the cases where alternatives are available. The case of lobster ought to have been focused on meeting the nutritional needs of people. However, as it stands at the contemporary world, festivals organized in which lobster are used to suffice circus is not encouraging. Comparatives proposed methods of killing lobster when cooking them offers an insight into the mechanism of moral responsibility of man towards nature (Wright 58). Although, the animals may not have the opportunity to address their feeling or express pain like human beings, presiding over their deliberate grueling death is tantamount to the highest level of cruelty. The conflicting aspect of the debate also emerges from the best method of killing lobster I the goal is to minimize the pain. Regardless of the method used to cook the lobster, the pain is literally inescapable. However, some level of conduct is expected with consideration of the creature’s behavior. For instance, it is imperative that the lobsters’ anti-overcrowding characteristic is respected to eliminate their horrendous attack on each other while man observe and laugh. This act of deriving entertainment at the expense of the lobster’s right to life is unacceptable and portrays the extremity of human moral irresponsibility. In-depth evaluation of the scenario of MLF offers a lesson on the concept of moral obligation as far as the relationship between man and nature is concerned. The future generation is equally considered as critical as far as moral actions towards other animals are concerned. One question that must be lingering in the mind of many people is whether such parties like MLF are good for future generation. Present actions must focus on the future outcomes and specifically target our children. Instilling sound principles on environmental care and nature conservancy forms the basis of saving the future generation. It is in the interest of the community to adopt ethical practices while making efforts to reap from such events like Maine lobster festival. The increasing lobby for animal rights to life has to be effected through public-private partnership to address such moral failures towards treatment of the lobster. Nutritional argument for lobster consumption Although previously considered a foodstuff for the economically less advantaged, lobsters have emerged to be nutritious and consistent with the protein needs of the society. The conversion into the meal for the elite class is an obvious guess of its low cholesterol and fat limits. Provided the claws have been removed, the remaining parts of the lobster a great meal. Economic perspective of harvesting lobster Communities living near the coastline and that depend on lobsters to earn living definitely gain. But the question is whether they consider lobster boiling in such MLF as an issue of moral conscience. The creature fetches good income besides expanding tourist number which translates to better living standards. Although the surrounding community may enjoy gain in the events that are centered on lobster boiling and eating, they must scrutinize the effect of taking part in cruel acts against the same (Claflin 47). It is imperative that society takes a bolder step to tamper pleasure with justice towards nature. As it has always been argued by many researchers, man depends on nature and any attempt to frustrate the course of other lives is likely to be felt in the long run. Conclusion The efforts of bodies like PETA through celebrity-based campaign against MLF clearly show the increasing resistance against animal cruelty. It can be concluded that lobster treatment is just one of the several cases that exhibit abdication of moral duty of members of the society as people pursue pleasure.
