Extract of sample "The Invention of Fire and Invention of the Wheel in the Human History"

Invention of fire and invention of wheel are two noticeable landmarks in the human history. Though one of these alone cannot be treated superior to the other, a little comparison is possible. It is believed that fire was accidently discovered by the ancient men in the time immemorial. If fire was not at all discovered, the whole world would have been in obscurity as it would not have paved the way for the inventions of other important aspects in human life.  From the point of time when fire was invented, man uses fire to light his ways along the valleys and hills.

With the invention of fire people were able to move towards cold regions and settle down there. Until the invention of fire men were forced to satisfy themselves with uncooked food; and with the advent of fire man started preparing dainty food for himself and for his kin. As boiled and baked food items were comparatively secure they could keep aloof the diseases which they used to fall in frequently. By setting fire to the premises of his inhabiting areas he succeeded in keeping away the wild animals from harming him.

And also fire was extensively used for giving signals. As far as the wheel is concerned, it was one of the most important mechanical inventions that man has ever done. As Quaglia opines, wheels were first used to transform clay into pots. With wheels man could make barrows and bullock carts which were the sole factor behind his easy movements to various destinations. In man’s expedition to discover the unexplored places to live in, the wheels have always been helpful in shifting his material possessions.

As men moved towards the middle age it is evident that the improvements made in wheels helped them to be transformed into gears and it was the impetus for the invention of devices such as clocks, water wheels and so on. The use of wheels in trains and heavy machines helped to bring industrial revolution which resulted in large scale production and employment. Thus invention of wheel is the whole factor that the world is developed as we see today. As mentioned on the onset, both fire and wheel have got multiple uses and are quite inevitable in day to day life.

So, it is a difficult task to establish that one is more important than the other. Wheels are unavoidable as they are of very much helpful in the easy movements of men and material. In the same way, fire being a survival tool cannot be discarded easily. One may argue that wheel is important as it helps in mobility and an important substance in modern machines and equipments. But the proponent of this view can be silenced on quoting the fact that fire is the primary energy used for the wheels to roll.

Even if a clear cut assertion is not possible, an ordinary man of average knowledge can say that fire has got a bit more importance than that of wheel.Works CitedQuaglia, Marc. “The History of the Wheel”.
