fication is a characteristic feature of American society, because rich ethnic landscape and cultural heterogeneity form the lion’s share of peculiar American sociocultural reality. Being originally a country of immigrants, the U.S. was inhabited by people belonging to different ethnic groups and cultures, yet not all of them were seen as equal due to certain historical conditions. Therefore, the policy of the government has been directed at tolerance and improvement of multicultural nature of the society.

This means that multiculturalism in the U.S. is related to such issues as unity, diversity of cultures, cultural identity crisis, reconsideration of national traditions and equality of values and cultures. Moreover, improvement of multiculturalism in American society depends on issues of social status, religious tolerance, interracial marriages and cross-racial relations. Among them, race relations still remain among the most problematic issues, as it is one of the widest problems to be considered and solved.

Comparing interracial marriage, race relations and social class issues, we will put the most problematic issue to the foreground. Despite the intense policy of tolerance and multicultural equality promoted in the U.S., discrimination of ethnic and racial minorities still exists within American society, though having acquired less explicit forms. Therefore, racial inequality remains an important part of multicultural chauvinism, as – having originally taken the dominant role in American society – whites still remain the race assuming the position of supremacy in comparison to racial minorities such as African Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanics.

Although extensive integration efforts are being made across the nation, many people still have a biased attitude towards racial minorities, especially African Americans, discriminating them implicitly in spheres of housing, professional activity etc. The levels of income, house ownership, education quality
