Conflict theory suggests that where various groups seek their interests freely, social and economic disparities are likely to define the extent to which each group will access important needs in society. These groups vie for control of resources and with time, the more powerful groups fight their way to dominance.
The new social order created by these governing groups then stifles marginalized groups by manipulating laws and policies to make life easier for them by raising the bar on access to basic things such as housing and food and cutting down staffs in companies which they own in order to limit expenditure. These developments push the marginalized communities further into hardship, substance use, and acts of defiance. against the dominant groups in order to obtain resources which they think can better their lives.
