Topic: Social Change and Modernization Social change A form of modification, difference or alteration in a given society is referred to as society change. Society change is determined by various factors. The change in time is the major factor that determines society change. Society change is also a term that is used in the description of variation as well as modification of aspects of social interaction, social organization, social process or social pattern (Scott.2006. pg 109).Social change is associated with various features.

The first one is that social change is collective. This shows that it occurs in every society. People in the current generation move from one place to another in search of adventure or under forced circumstances. Secondly, the rate of social change is determined by time factor. People go out of their societies to look for job opportunities after they have graduated. Modern societies experience rapid transition in social change as compared to traditional societies. The third characteristic states that the rate of social change varies in equality as well as competition.

Social change is rapid in modern societies while slow in traditional societies. Apparently, social change can be viewed as an essential law. Planned change emerges from deliberate effort while unplanned change occurs with no calculated effort. Traditionally houses used to be built anyhow but in the modern society house development requires a structured plan.ModernizationModernization is the process of an evolutionary transformation from a traditional to a contemporary society (Scott.2006. pg 110).

The key features of modernization include: increased technology. An example of this is the emergence of automatic machines as compared to the manual traditional machinery. There is an increase in speed. People tend to use computers I writing instead of handwriting which is slow. Increased production of recourses as well as increased utility. The emergence of improved science in agriculture has led to an increase in production of food. Population has increased due to better health services and decrease in infant mortality rate.
