Extract of sample "Diversion Program"

The purpose of the "gloves not guns" program is to save youth from offenses and street crimes. So they chose boxing as a tool by which students can take out all their anger and aggression in the ring. They can put off their stress in a legal way rather than indulging themselves in any unwanted acts."Most importantly, this program will provide our kids with positive alternatives and keep them off the streets and away from the dangers of gangs, guns, and drugs. By motivating young people to spend their spare time in the gym, rather than on the streets, we'll be using sports to change people's lives for the better.

" World Sport Chicago President, William Scherr If we look at this program from the perspective of social process theories, we observe that all the factors of social learning theory, social control theory, and social reaction theory are associated with it. Social learning theory says that individuals learn techniques and attitudes of crimes from their environment. By this program, youth will get themselves in a healthy and constructive environment which will eventually lead them to have strong moral values and norms and they will learn to be more defensive than offensive as 14-year-old Elvin Turner said "It'll help me with self-defense.

Like if I'm taking the bus and somebody tries to jump me."Social control theory suggests that every individual has the potential to become a criminal but the bonds of society control him to become a criminal. This program directly reflects this theory. Aggression is in the default system of humans and he will eventually take out it somewhere. The boxing program will control their aggression by making it a legal, enjoyable, fun, and commendable sport. A 15-year-old student Tracy Griffin Jr. suggested: "You can't join a gang if you spend two to three hours training every day," Griffin said.

"By the time they get out, they'll be too tired for that." Social labeling theory says that criminals are said to be criminals when society names them as criminals. By the program under discussion, the students, rather than involving in street crimes, will get a chance to represent their community, city, or country if they reach that particular level. USA Boxing CEO, Jim Millman added that "Gloves Not Guns will have a positive effect on the community organizations we engage in the program, and will ultimately strengthen America's participation and interest in Olympic sports".

So as a result, the students will be in prestigious and honored positions. Gloves not guns is a praiseworthy program which sets an example for us on how to make diversion program beneficial for our society, our people and our country. By having an inside look, I came to know that how beautifully they have targeted our youth and it will have a long-lasting effect on us.
