The book Travel with Charley in search of America is a travelogue by John Steinbeck with his poodle Charley. He wrote this road trip in 1960 to know and explore the great America. In this book, the author tells some facts about America like at different places, the people have different attitudes and beliefs which can affect your own attitude. He has also discussed about the growing population and the transformation of small villages into big cities. In this book, he tells us that how people of America are going to change like they have become more conscious about cleanliness than the taste.

He has also mentioned the political ignorance of the society. But on some places he has narrated the beauty of places like when he visited the giant redwood and sequoia trees, he appreciated it. After visiting the south area, the writer has discussed the issue of growing racism as some people feared that it would bring change. Author has also mentioned the technological advancement in his book. Organization of the book: In this book, author has focused on different attitudes and beliefs of people.

He tells us the people from different places have different attitudes and beliefs. According to Steinbeck (1962), these attitudes and beliefs can affect your own attitude and beliefs. . Then he has told us about the shock he had encountered in New Orleans because of racism. In this book, author has represented many different views by different people. In his journey, he has discussed different issues such as attitude and beliefs, political and technological advancement and future uncertainty and racism with different people.

In my opinion, the author has presented all the facts very logically and clearly. For example, he states political and technological advancements as the main reasons of future uncertainty. In my opinion, author has tried to present all the facts but somehow he has skipped few important ones. For example, he has discussed the racism in New Orleans but he failed to discuss the reasons behind it. Furthermore, he tells about the cleanliness at the expense of taste but he did not tell the reason why people are behaving like that.

In my opinion, the author has tried to represent all the facts in a new logical manner. However, he has presented all the issues that are faced by America but he has failed in associating those issues in a different way directly with the people in the American society. An example could be the issue of emerging racism in New Orleans; the author has just represented it as an issue faced by New Orleans not as the issue that could be faced by entire America. After reading this book, I can say that this book has failed to change my views on a large scale mainly because this book was written in 1960s which represents the American society and the problems faced by people in 1960s and not of today.

Style of book: This book is a pure travelogue. Majority of travelogues are based on only the places that an author visits. But Steinbeck has
