ABSTRACT
Racism, prejudice and discrimination has been rampant in greater parts of the world. Many campaigns have been launched to address the menace (Yang, 2000) For instance, In Australia, there is a campaign dumped “RACISM. It stops with me” It’s a campaign that invites all Australians and non Australians to replicate on what they could do to counteract racism and its effects wherever it happens. In Australia and other parts of the world, there is an increasing demand to address the concepts of racism, discrimination and prejudice in both private and public institutions, for instance public offices, colleges and institutions among others (Huggan, 2007).
This paper aims at obtaining various solutions to racism on the practical and economic community in general. Through analyzing of the case study of the online news story given, the paper will review both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the studies on the impact of racism on the practical and academic community in general, and in turn, the best solutions will be obtained and documented. This paper proposes analysis using quantitative and qualitative approaches of addressing the menace of Racism. This paper will discuss in detail the concept of racism, its effects to the community and how to address the counter the effects to a great deal. The qualitative and quantitative research methodologies were selected to examine an online story on racism in 2014 and the analysis will be based on the survey or research conducted (Tayor & Bogdan, 1998).
Ensuring the quality of research in this field will enable future researchers to reveal the complex effects that racism brings to its victims.
INTRODUCTION
Racism generally involves both prejudice and discrimination based on social sensitivity of biological diversity and differences between people. It regularly takes the perspective of social actions, beliefs or practices and even political systems that reflect on different races ranked as intrinsically superior or even inferior to one other based on assumed inheritable traits and qualities. It may also embrace that members from different races ought to be treated in different ways (Yang, 2000)
Racism can exist in many ways like jokes, or even comments that may cause an offence of hurt that may be sometimes unintentional: calling others names commonly known as verbal abuse. Racism may also entail harassment or bullying or observations in the media or online that agitates opposition and hostility towards certain groups. In diverse cases, racism can result to acts of physical abuse and violence.
Racism can in one way or another exclude people from accessing services or participating in areas like education, employment, sport and social activities. It can even occur at systemic and uninstitutional levels through policies, conditions or procedures that disadvantage certain specific groups. It frequently manifests through insensible and unconscious bias or prejudice.
A consultation survey conducted in Australia in 2013 found out that 20 percent of Australians surveyed had in one way or another experienced racial discrimination in the form of racial hatred, and one in twenty people had been attacked because of their race (Huggan, 2007)
So while cultural diversity is crucial to one’s national identity, the truth of the matter is that too many Australians experience racism, prejudice and discrimination on an ordinary basis.
Who experiences Racism
While racially prejudiced behavior, such as oral abuse, can be directed towards members of any given racial group, some people are most prone to undergo racism repeatedly than others and are similarly at a risk of experiencing unfairness in a constant or systematic way. For example, people from linguistically and culturally varied backgrounds are particularly prone.
Impact of racism
Racism has a noteworthy impact on both individuals who experience it and the entire community. Continued research shows that there are significant relations between experiences of racism and discrimination and deteriorated physical and mental health, reduced efficiency and productivity as well as minimized life expectancy. In addition, it is well understood that racism presents obstacles to social and economic involvement that can sequentially cause social exclusion and establish disadvantage especially for generations.
LITERATURE REVIEW
In a survey research, there are three basic categories of approaches that could be effectively applied. They include the quantitative or qualitative approach, applied or basic approach and deductive or inductive approaches. However, in this scenario the quantitative and qualitative approach will be applied (Tayor & Bogdan, 1998).
This literature review will provide the two kinds of research methodologies used to discuss the scenario problem that in this case is racism. The methods used are qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. These two research methodologies can be applied separately but more reliable and accurate results are obtained when the two methodologies are applied concurrently.
Firstly, a qualitative research methodology is to interact with participants who want to study. On the other hand, the qualitative method relies on tests, interview, questionnaire and online interviews. Thus, the qualitative method is a narrative description of organization management. In terms of qualitative, it came into wide application in the early 1970s and became an interdisciplinary approach (Tayor & Bogdan, 1998). The use of qualitative research is becoming growth because the researchers want deeply to understand their research topics. In the literature, the qualitative method refers to the observation, ethnography, interview and group discussions. The qualitative method can help to find out the meaning behind the number, that is a flexibility method without large samples (Cohen & Manion, 1996).
From the study story, more research is appropriate to address the issue of racism that is on the increase.
Reviewing the existing finding of facts or knowledge by others is important. This is to
Study the accurateness of the existing findings for application in this issue and even for future surveys. For instance, since 1995, the Racial Discrimination Act of Australia has been striving to protect citizens and non citizens from racial hatred. Section 18C of the Act puts it clear that any act that is logically likely to offend, insult, intimidate or humiliate an individual or a group on racial basis is prohibited, unless it is an exception as provided in section18D. This kind of literature gives us an overview of the state of affairs as pertains Racism.
The purpose of any qualitative market research is order to address the subject matter that in this case is the problem of Racism. Even though the integration of the usage of both quantitative and qualitative approaches have been successfully approached, there is a need for additional investigation and research to make clear of the consequences of a number of mixed approaches that generate the research outcomes (Huggan, 2007) The combination of both quantitative and qualitative data in the aspects of a diversified approaches research has excessive potential to reinforce the consistency, accuracy and supplement the investigation and findings of any situations evaluation such as to evaluate the real causes of Racism, its effects to the society and how to curb the menace.
By linking both quantitative and qualitative research approaches, researchers can instantaneously adapt to and go beyond prevailing research agreements, taking granted of the most appreciated features respectively (Hathaway, 1995).

Thus the nation's attitude towards racial assortment comes under new scrutiny.
The lady in question insults a man and beside him is sitting an Asian woman. The tirade is caught on camera and posted online on the BBC website.
The lady termed the man as a sad and poor pathetic man and this all happened in public. The Lady said “Is it really that small that you can't get an Aussie girl?" "What's wrong with your country Hong Kong? Why'd you come to this country? This is our country."
In general, a quarter or even more of Australians were born out of the country. Theirs is a land that regards itself as a multicultural success and sensation story, but it is one ruined by an indelible stain of racism.
Many people say that racism will always be part and parcel of any given society as it has always been a normal human problem (Huggan, 2007).
METHODOLOGY
Analysis
The methodology entails the methods of data collection, data recording and analysis as well as how the results are compared, integrated, interpreted and documented for future use. All this is undertaken using the qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Telephone surveys are also applicable. The questionnaire is the best way to collect the information because it is the most directive way. Online surveys are also necessary and cheaper as well and can thus be applied in the analysis. In the current world, the increased numbers of people prefer to do the survey online, because most of their time is online (Tayor & Bogdan, 1998).
Design
The qualitative method research and the quantitative method research should be combined. Competent personnel should be employed to carry out the activities of data collection, and analysis towards addressing the issue of racism. They need to be trained on how to approach people during the actual data collection. Time and period factor is also necessary, for instance, conducting the research during holidays will gather adequate information on racism as those affected by racism come from overseas. The data collected would then be analyzed using ones professional and human judgment and the results tabled (Cohen & Manion, 1996).
Results
From the interactions with respondents who in one way have experienced someone undergoing racial mistreatment, the following sort of results would be expected:
Racism as a topic has to be addressed on by conducting as many researches as possible so as to address it as it has become the most persistent social problem in Australia and other parts of the world.
Racism is based on the attitude of a person based on the presumed superiority or inferiority of one group to another
FORESEEABLE ISSUES
Financial constraints are a big issue that has to be considered in future for similar surveys and research. Money has to be considered when planning for research in terms of resources required (notebooks, pens, printing questionnaires). In addition, quality personel has to be engaged. Data collection clerks, data entry clerks among other staff should be considered. This requires adequate capital to be invested on the same.
Future researchers should also consider applying the various approaches of data analysis in order to obtain substantial findings of the subject matter. For instance, quantitative or qualitative approach, applied or basic approach and deductive or inductive approaches
CONCLUSION
The interviews, use of questionnaires and the application of high technology and online survey can be viewed as very useful tools in understanding and addressing the scenario of Racism. Using these approaches, we can gain both responsibility and sustainability result. Through interaction with the respondents, synergy is created and this ensures that the responses are true and accurate and that the participants are willing to be engaged. These approaches also can provide different voices from various respondents through the use of questionnaires, face to face interviews among others (Cohen & Manion, 1996).
