Diaspora, communication, multicultural question presentation Slide The development of a global village has enhanced integration among people through communication. While the enhanced integration has benefitted several sectors of the economy by increase markets, the concept has restructured the community thereby compelling mass communicators to employ specific strategies in order to enhance their communication. Mass communication refers to a type of communication in which a message generated by a single source target millions of people strewn all over the region.
Slide 2
The rapid development of diaspora communities following increased interaction in the contemporary society thus influences the process of mass communication since communicators must consider different factors that influence the settlement of people throughout the world. Gillespie thus investigates the effects of the diaspora communities in mass communication with the view of improving success in transnational communications (Gillespie, 2003).
Slide 3
Cultural difference is an important social feature that influences the communication process. Culture refers to the way of doing things in thee society. Distinctive groups in the society have particular ways of doing things (Nightingale & Ross, 2002). Such things as cuisine, religion, mode of dressing and social groupings influence people’s interests thereby influencing the newsworthiness of the events in different societies. Gillespie explains the influence of culture in transnational communication. Furthermore, mass media institutions are commercial organizations that have particular organizational cultures. Organizational culture influences the timing and modes of news presentation at particular times.
Slide 4
Time difference coupled with the distance between the diaspora community and their home countries affects the newsworthiness of issues occurring across the world. Such factors influences the effectiveness of the communication process since every communicator seeks to reach his or her target audience. This validates the need for repetition; most news channels broadcast their news either hourly or after specific hours. While doing this, they repeat some of the news articles they consider important throughout the day. By repeating such news articles, the communicator increases the probability of the target audience to obtain such messages through the numerous media the communicator may employ.
Slide 5
The effectiveness of mass communication relies in the ability of the communicator to identify a newsworthy event, package the message appropriately and target an appropriate audience. In his book, Transnational Communications and Diasporas Communities, Gillespie addresses the process of identifying and selecting a particular audience especially in transnational communication.
Slide 6
The selection of the audience requires the communicator to identify and address an issue that interests the particular audience. After determining such an issue, the communicator must package the information appropriately and communicate the same through an effective medium (Quayson & Girish, 2013). Transnational communication refers to a communication process that exists on a global platform. This implies that the communicator must employ a medium that enjoys a global reach in order to reach the target audience.
Slide 7
The mass communicators must consider multiple factors including, technical, cultural and social that are likely to affect their comprehension and interest in the messages. The diaspora community has diverse opinions about their host community a feature that influences their comprehension of the messages in their mass media. Additionally, they have specific interests on news about their home countries. This makes the selection of the media essential in ensuring that the communication process is complete.
Slide 8
Gillespie explains that the diaspora community does exist discreetly, instead the community is evident among others in the society and they interact with the rest of the society. This implies that the factors affecting the lives of the natives affect them as well and the information on such factors would interest them just as they interest the natives. However, the group seeks a diverse type of message from mass communicators owing to their interests multiple societies.

The internet is yet another fundamental communication aspect in human communication. as a fundamental aspect of communication in modern society with the developed countries like the united states having a ninety seven percent infiltration and access, the internet has arguably become one of the most fundamental features of the contemporary society. Researches that led to the invention of the internet began in the 1960s. In 1961 for example, the American military used Mark 1, a technology that used data switching to relay messages through varied protocols. The success of the invention led to the development of Arpanet, which facilitated the transfer of data packets. The connection of two nodes one at UCLA’s school of engineering and Douglas Engel Bart’s in California, United States formed the first Arpanet (Hamilton, 2005).
Slide 10
The success and the infiltration of the internet coupled with the use of smartphones in the contemporary society has resulted in varied commercial success as researchers in the sector seek to improve the efficient use of the two technologies. The invention of the social media in 2002 with the launch of Facebook by an American researcher was among the preliminary inventions in the multibillion-dollar industry.
Slide 11
In the modern context, mobile phones are fundamental aspects of human interactions. The devices have equally changed thus influencing their relevance in the society. The infiltration of smart phones in the society has facilitated radical changes in human communication. Currently people use their mobile phones for myriad uses following the successful integration of several; features on the devices. Among the features are cameras, calculators, diaries, internet access and powerful lighting features among others.
Slide 12
With the success in Japan, the technology thus spread through Europe among other developed economies in the early 1980s.Denmark, Finland and Sweden later launched Nordic Mobile Telephone system in 1981 thus supporting a large-scale commercial use of mobile phones. The technology was analogue but provided a basic platform for communication. With the invention and the use of the devices, successive studies and technological researches on the devices began in earnest often developing the effectiveness and efficiency of the mobile telephony. In 1991 for example, a Finland company known as Radiolinja launched the first 2G digital operating system that operated on a GSM. With an improved operation system, the mobile telephone became more efficient as the manufacturers began competing for the growing market.
Slide 13
The use of technology in the contemporary society has enhanced the collection of news items, news processing and news presentation among the societies including the diaspora. The invention and subsequent use of the mobile phones has revolutionized the contemporary economies, currently nearly seventy percent of the global population have access to mobile communication devices such as smart phones and tablets among others. The percentage is even higher in the developed countries most of which have about ninety percent access to mobile phones. The history of mobiles phones dates back to the Second World War. The technology had been used back then in facilitating communication from trains and ships. In the two concepts, the use of radio communication from which mobile phones evolved. Motorola, an American mobile manufacturing company produced the first hand held mobile phone in 1973. Following the laboratory success of the test equipment, a Japanese communication company, NNT launched the first commercial cellular network, a framework that could support commercial use of mobile phones.
