By specifically researching the methods and efficiencies that were experienced in the response to the March 11, 2011 earthquake, this paper will examine real-life results of the events surrounding this terrible disaster. In order to understand the successes and problems that occurred during the March 11, 2011 earthquake in Japan, it is essential to understand the nature of earthquake disaster management. An earthquake causes damage that is unique to its defined parameters. Earthquakes create structural damage that destroys buildings and literally shake the foundations of all urban development in such a way to compromise the structural integrity.

Social systems are tested to their capacity as responsiveness to the events strain the system and put pressure on those who work in the social services.
