This begs the question whether there should be a formal apology between countries for atrocities committed at a time when there was no tangible framework for international peace. To solve the problem, Japan should give an unconditional apology as a first step to mending ties since it was the aggressor at the height of WWII. That may mark the end of tensions in the East Asia region between the American ally and other world powers in the region. May be that would lead to more transparency, lifting of trade regulations and promote regional trade for a stronger political economy.
