Ban cell phones while driving “A 2005 study cited in the quarterly journal, Human Factors, found that each year, cell phone distraction was responsible for 2600 fatalities and 330,000 injuries” (Dennis). It is a fact that cell phones revolutionized the communication channels; however injudicious usages of cell phones brought many harm than the goods. Using cell phones while driving is one instant in which can cell phones may become the villains. Many countries already imposed fines on using cell phone while driving.
In United States only in few states, cell phones were banned while driving. “There are 270 million cell phone users in the U.S. and 80 percent of them talk on the phone while driving” (Safety council: Ban cell phones while driving). This paper briefly analyses the consequences of using cell phones while driving. In a busy world like ours, it is a fact that cell phone usages are necessary even while sleeping. Nobody has any doubt in using the cell phones during our daily activities; however, cell phone usages at the time of driving should be restricted considering the accidents it can cause.
Not only can the driver who used the cell phone, but innocent people also lose their life because of the accidents developed out of the driving with a cell phone. In other words, the consequences of rash driving are affecting both the driver and the innocent people. The driver who uses cell phones can argue that he is ready to accept the consequences; however he cannot compensate others if they lose their lives because of irresponsible driving. There is nothing wrong in using the cell phones while driving a vehicle.
But, if it is essential, the driver should park the vehicle somewhere before using the phones. Even if he failed to attend an incoming call while driving, he can call back the person and after parking the vehicle. “Using a cell phone while driving is as dangerous as driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08- the point at which drivers are considered intoxicated in most U.S. states”(Bauer). Many people believe that using cell phones while driving has nothing to do with the driving prowess of the driver.
They are unaware of the fact that driving requires more than 1005 concentration. The coordination of hands, legs and the brain is important in safe driving. Cell phone usages while driving will force the driver to give some attention to the words of the person on the other end of the phone. It is not necessary that the messages he receives from the other end are pleasant ones. Some of the information could be disturbing which will make him agitated. Such agitations can reduce the level of attention he has given to driving which may end up in severe accidents.
“ In fact, some tests have suggested drivers talking on cell phones are more likely to crash than drunk drivers” (Bauer). In short, cell phone usages while driving should be prohibited considering the fact that it can cause severe accidents. Nothing is as important as human life on earth. Once the life is lost, nobody can take it back or return it. Under such circumstances, cell phone usages while driving should be prohibited strictly. Works Cited 1.
