? Power of Money In APA Format Ask the son whose father is lying on the death bed waiting to be operated, the power of money, ask hundreds of thousands of children in Africa who are dying of malnutrition, the power of money, ask people living in dire poverty incapable of buying themselves a one course meal, the power of money. Money is more than capable of buying happiness, materialistic well-being is the most important goal of several people these days and they try their best to accomplish it, they make money either by hook or by crook. This is the only reason why the crime rate has become uncontrollable; this is the only reason why we see instances of corruption everywhere. The psyche of the people has been affected and they are driven by wealth and strongly relate wealth with happiness. This paper will shed light upon the power of money and what it can buy. Money can change people: Money has the ultimate power of changing the people, some for good and some for not so. Warren Buffett is one of the richest people in the world; he has donated billions of dollars and continues to stun his employees with his sagacity and his nature. Money has not changed him as a man; he still resides in a very small house considering the wealth he has accumulated over the years. Money can change a weak man but a strong man will never be swayed by this temptation. There are several examples which can prove this, consider professional sportsmen. They make so much money yet they keep practicing and keep getting better at what they do. They do not play for money, they play because they are passionate about their chosen sport, professional footballers train for hours every day to get better, when they get seriously injured, they work even harder. Some footballers even work for over 9 to 10 hours a day just to get better and to take the field. Money can never change such dedicated professionals, on the contrary someone who becomes rich all of a sudden is ought to change, take a person who has won a lottery for instance. He would want to experience everything good in life with the prize money and once the prize money is over, the person will struggle to acclimatize to his usual lifestyle. Money and habits have a very deep connection; a person who is prone to spending will find devious ways of earning money when he has no money. This is why we are witnessing crimes on a daily basis these days; most of these crimes are money driven if not all. “Money, then, appears as this distorting power both against the individual and against the bonds of society, etc., which claim to be entities in themselves. (The Power of Money) Money is believed to be capable of transforming love into strong hatred; it is also capable of transforming intelligence into idiocy. Unemployment and Crime Rates: We get to see several instances of desperation everywhere, chain snatching, robbery, and mugging are common occurrence. Thugs are ready to murder other people for a handful of cash and this is why life has become the cheapest commodity. “It was hypothesized that nations having a high rate of unemployment and an inequitable distribution of income would have a high crime rate.” (Inequality, Unemployment and Crime) It is a well known fact that desperation can force a human being to do unprecedented things; this can be proved by giving an opportune example. A person who has been sacked and is left with no money needs money to get his father operated who is suffering from a brain tumor, chemotherapy is quite expensive and requires a lot of money, immediate treatment should be provided otherwise his father may expire, the person will inevitably adopt unprecedented ways of getting money and saving his father. Some others involve themselves in criminal activities because of their lifestyle, some take drugs and when they do not have the money to buy drugs, they do unimaginable things to acquire money and satisfy their insatiable hunger for drugs. How money can buy happiness Vs How it cannot: Different people will have different takes on this debate topic, some would say that money can buy an air conditioner but it can never buy sleep, it can never buy love, it can never buy peace and so on. Some others will say money is the only thing that can buy happiness, but to be happy, one has to fulfill his basic needs which only money can buy, there is no denying this fact. One has to ensure that his basic needs are being taken care of only then can he be happy. There are some others who are not happy in spite of being very rich. Many rich people are obese and desperately want to lose weight but they are unable to do so, this makes them sad. Many rich people are ugly, they want to look good but are unable to do so many rich people are suffering from chronic illnesses but are unable to cure them because money is incapable of buying a cure. “Financially richer people tend to be happier than poorer people, according to sociological researcher Glenn Firebaugh, Pennsylvania State University, and graduate student Laura Tach, Harvard University.” (Can Money buy Happiness?) Money can surely buy happiness but it depends and varies from person to person, it can buy happiness for those who are seeking riches, it can’t buy happiness for those who are content with what they have. It is all about understanding how much a person wants? It is very important to know this in order to be happy and satisfied. We have different goals and to accomplish those goals we need money, an ambitious person would not be happy until he makes a lot of money, on the contrary an average person who is not so ambitious would be happy and satisfied making much less money than an ambitious person. These differences must be understood to determine if money can make someone happy or not. “Whoever said money can't buy happiness isn't spending it right." (Can Money buy Happiness?) Conclusion “Did millions of dollars bring enduring happiness to Mack Metcalf? Obviously not, On the contrary, those who knew him blame the money for his demise.” (Can Money Buy Happiness?) Many a time money causes a lot of problem, a rich person many be seriously troubled by other people who are after his wealth, mafia for instance is often after people who are really wealthy and have a great lifestyle, this is how money can cause serious problems. These problems can be avoided by keeping a low profile but rich people do not know how to keep a low profile, this is their biggest problem. They are flamboyant and start believing that their wealth can buy anything without realizing the fact that they are living in a fool’s paradise. The paper shed light upon three very important questions; the first is how money has the power to change people? There have been several examples that show people with a strong frame of mind would not change even after getting rich but people who are weak often get swayed and change after acquiring wealth. The second question which has been discussed in the paper is the relationship between unemployment and crime, people who are desperate would do anything to salvage the situation, this is why the crime rate is increasing with each passing day. Finally the paper comprehensively presented the fact that money can buy happiness for some people and it can never buy happiness for some others, it purely depends on their thinking and ambitions.
