Extract of sample "Letters Exhibit Gentle Approach Toward Priest"

The issue that has worried me most is in the Sacha Pfeiffer (2002) article, “Letters exhibit gentle approach toward priest”. The talk describes a priest in a series of covers on heinous acts that took place in the most unexpected place. In this case, John J. Geoghan, the priest, engaged in multiple assaults in various parishes. This was caused by his seniors who failed to take decisive actions on the errant man of the cloth.

What is astonishing in these ordeals is the issue of betrayal at two levels: at the lower level John J. Geoghan sexually assaulted women and children while at the senior level, his supervisors “treated with unfailing delicacy’’. In the fast case, it is least expected that a religious leader, in this case, a priest, would engage in disgraced acts that contravene their faith and calling. As such, the article is glaring evidence of faith betrayal in our religion. In this, the faithful expect their leaders to uphold the highest degree of morality. Priests and other men of the cloth hold titles of honor and respect but they end up deceiving the flock. Furthermore, the article has implicated top church officials, including Bishop John B. McCormack, in systematic abuse of power and cover-ups.

The article has struck me most as I have realized that not even in the custody of our priests if the girl's child is safe. In addition, the article has exposed the rot that is being swept under the carpet in parishes and other religious places. As such, a serious call should be made to the priesthood so as they live by their calling they can restore the confidence and faith that the faithful had in them.
