6th October Colonial period: The time of early colonial settlers and Native Americans The colonial period that dates back from 1607 to 1776 is widely known due to American Revolutionary War. Additionally, this period was when the US constitution was establishment. The colonists had the intension to control Europe, the settlers and the colonists had religious motives or freedom, and presence of land which they could cultivate for wealthy motives. Europe had a system of government and the rule of law which was supposed to be followed by the newcomers together with the Native Americans. The Native Americans together with settlers became rebellious during this entire period of colonization leading to creation of new nation which was named as United States of America. During this colonial period, events occurred for example 8 Englishmen being allowed to colonize other parts of America. For example Virginia was the first American colony which was founded at Jamestown in Virginia. The Native Americans who were in Virginia had mixed feelings towards the newcomers; they were hostile to them and even attacked their ships. On the other hand, Indians had hospitality to the newcomers thus providing food to them. In the North of America, Massachusetts Bay colony was formed in 1920 together with Plymouth colony. In the other colonies war started in north American showing European rivalries where the Native American had to look for alliances to other powers to make sure that the colonist will not control the whole region for long period since the Native Americans together with the settlers experienced challenges when dealing with the colonial masters. For example king George war the Native American had to ally with other colonist like the British and French depending on the interests of other colonies to a specific indentified colony which was assumed to be the best. This depended on the interest of colonies to others. Due to religious motives Toleration Act was given a consideration in 1649 making England to be given the power of religious freedom. As a missionary during the colonial period, I was fully engaged in ensuring that masters and their servants did not interfere with the religious organizations that were trying to bring people together. Additionally, my role was to preach peace and unity among members of the community. Revolutionary period: the time of the American Revolution and the establishment of the United States The American Revolutionary which started in 1775 to 1783 is also termed as American war of independence. The war was between the Great Britain by the American colonies which later was named as United States of America. The unlawful act which the British parliament imposed on the Americans was one of major causes of the war. The province of Massachusetts Bay was abolished leading to an outbreak of war between the militia who were against the act and the British in 1775. In 1776, the militia had the control all the colonies and thus they were declared to have their independence. George Washington was the commander of the British army where they used different methods to put down the revolt of the American rebel army. For example, in 1776 they were able to capture the New York City later in 1777 they were able to capture Philadelphia. Since the British army was not significantly large in size they had to rely on American loyalist of which it was not possible to convince a large number of them. The poor coordination of British army resulted to capturing of their army which made them not to advance in Albany. The battle of Saratoga led to capturing of British army in 1777 (Mary et al, 94). France, Spain, and Netherlands on the other hand kept on providing ammunitions and war weapons in early 1776. France on the other hand had to engage in the war to persuade the American government not to accept peace treaty. The allies Spain, France were able to attack the British on the sea and thus taking all the resources of British on the North America due to sea power. In 1778, British started to concentrate on the southern colonies and they were able to capture Georgia and Carolina. France being an ally of American colony was also able to capture 7000 soldiers from British side. This was a challenge to the Britain and thus they had no will to continue with the war any longer. In 1782, Paris treaty was recognized where United States of America was declared free. This made the United States to be self dependant where democracy was emphasized. Peace treaties were signed by several territories. During the revolution period I was an Anglican member. During this entire period religion played a role of making sure that they opposed the British colonization. The reason behind this is due to fact that they humiliated the native by taxing them. As a member of Anglican member I used to communicate to other fellows to keep peace since mass killings were taking place at that entire period. I could encourage the other Native Americans that suffering will come to the end soon. Westward Bound: The period of expansion westward, may include the Gold Rush United States is among the nations which expanded westwards; they were in the east, coast and later continued to west. They expanded until they reached the pacific which was termed as the great leap westwards. Early when the American colonies had not been declared as a nation from the Britain, the settlers kept on migrating westward. Expansion to the west led to formation of states like Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio among others. Expansion was not done in peaceful way rather blood was shed to evict those who were already there. For example, in 1812 when United States secured and defeated some Native tribes like Ohio and Mississippi among others. The forcible evacuation of Indians from southeast and later been taken to the states of Oklahoma and Arkansas comprised of pain and torture and this is the reason why it was termed as trail of tears. During this period of westward expansion, the Americans were known as superior since they were able to free all the people who were under the European as the colonies. The western hemisphere treated America as superior to the other entire nation since they defended other nations from this kind of colonization. After all the states were declared free from colonization, the next agenda which was alarming was whether United States was to abolish slavery though that was left for the people to decide that is either to abolish or to allow it. When California discovered that gold was in plenty in the area, expansion to the west started. This was made easier by the railroad which was constructed and Homestead Act of 1862. In 1848, gold was discovered in California by James Marshall. After discovery all the states knew about it and thus those individuals who lived in California were able to mine it. On the same year, residents from Oregon, Chile, Mexico, and pacific islands arrived so that they could get the hidden treasures in California. The treasures hunter came from many parts of United States. For example the Australia, china and other parts of Asia were among the gold seekers who arrived to find the treasures. More than 300,000 individuals were able to settle in California due to gold. More discoveries emerged where silver was discovered and Comstock Lode which both were discovered in 1859. This made California population to increase and economic development came about due to the gold, silver and Comstock lode. Before gold and silver were discovered in 1848, the population of San Francisco was about 100,000 people but as soon as gold was discovered and other minerals in California the population expanded to almost 300,000 people. During the westward bound I was a member of church of Jesus Christ. My role during the entire period was to make sure that freedom was granted for the slaves. As a member of the church I had to support the leaders who were for antislavery. I campaigned for abolition of slavery since it was not fair due to the fact that human beings are supposed to be equal. One of the major reason as to why I chosen to be a missionary during the Colonial period, Revolutionary period, and Westward Bound period is that my religion is fully committed to international peace as well as harmonious coexistence among all the races. As a committed Christian, my view is based on supporting others especially the ones who are subjected to pain, suffering and health problems. Through the support of other religions including Muslims, who were still against oppression and human suffering, we were able to address humanity issues that affected the people during the three periods. Other religious groups were very hostile to the colonialist since they were not happy with how they used to treat the natives. They supported the military and other organized groups who were to fight the colonialist and the newcomers. The church was used as hiding area and thus made attacking easier. I was an ambassador for peace and since I respected human being since they were created in the image of God I did not join in the war. My religion was characterized by strong believers who respected human dignity and their right. For example, in my region all human beings irrespective of race were supposed to be treated as equal. Incase of slavery we condemned it in all means possible where the members who used to have slaves freed them. Currently my religion is different from the world views since individuals take advantages for the others like the less privileged in the society. The poor are overworked and others work for less pay. The issues that separate I and others is that up to date I do not allow individual to portray racist ideas. I treat all human being equally though others can not employ individuals who are not from their race. Region plays a major role in my life since it shapes how I should relate with others and to make sure that I will live as an example. Religion plays a major role of bring others together since region is not about race or interdenominational one belongs to. This helps individual to co-exist together.
