The Summary of Jewish Annual Holidays: What are the Reasons? The Summary of Jewish Annual Holidays: What are the Reasons? The Jewish religious culture is having quite a few holidays. The concept of high holidays is developed in order to celebrate the initial period of the newest year. Ideally, the high holidays are observed on two beginning days of the month Tishri but the modern Jews observe the festival for only one day (Strassfeld, 1985, pp. 96). The high holidays are celebrated as an equivalent of New Year celebrations. The Jews consider the beginning of a year as an opportunity to correct the mistakes of the past. The celebrations however, are soberer than the other festivals such as creating shelter.
Yom Kippur, suffered his fate on the day that is now known as Day of Atonement. The occasion is observed in order to help the people in finding a purpose in life (Strassfeld, 1985, pp.11). The suffering of Kippur is a signifier of pain that a person has to suffer in the journey of attainment success. The success in the Jewish philosophy is primarily focused on one’s ability to achieve self actualization.
The traditional approach to celebrate Yom Kippur is characterized with a fast on the tenth of Tishri. The high holidays are observed to announce the beginning of a year. The happiness is meaningless without a purpose and therefore, the high holidays are followed with the festival of Yom Kippur. The kids should be told to integrate happiness and pleasure with the sense of serenity and because of this reason; I have decided to teach the origins of the featured festivals in the class.

The social construct of keeping Jewishness then led to a loss of many believing in the traditions of immigrants and the belief that the concept of American identity could be combined with the same sense of identity with being Jewish. To do this, entertainment worked on highlighting the festive qualities of Jewish rituals while accenting more popular and contemporary concepts that were incorporated into the rituals. The result was that entertainment began to create a different sense of identity that allowed the culture to become more popularized (Joselit, 231, 1994).
