Presenter 1: Women in Government & Politics Research Question: The research question which has been raised in the presentation is the manner in which women’s role has been limited in the field of politics. This is matched by the differences which society view between males and females and has resulted in the society to be male dominated. This raises questions regarding the manner in which social media will bring a change in women’s role in the society and having more personalities who will act as leaders and influence women to enter the field of politics. Research Methodology: The research uses primary sources where real life situations are being described by different personalities so that the manner in which women participate in politics can be understood (Hamel, 2003) Strength & Weakness of Research Question: The strengths which the research question raises are as The research presents the actual reality which the world is facing in the field of politics The questions highlights the fact that despite the twenty first century the society continues to be male dominated The weaknesses which the research question raises are as The research question is based on personal opinion and personal experience so it might not be true for the real world scenario The research question is being based on a particular sector or industry and might not be true for all sectors which will thereby raises doubts on the research being carried out Results: The results which was achieved based on the research question was convincing as it showed the manner in which males continue to dominate the world of politics. Females due to one reason or the other like family matters, children or being pressurized by family refrain from joining politics. This is matched by the lack of awareness and leaders which will attract females towards politics and will create the interest and zeal to join politics and be at par with males. Key Learning’s: The seminar provided different aspect of real life and was a learning curve as it showed that male continues to dominate the society with females having little representation in politics. Further, it was learnt that females from their small age are suppressed to carry out their aims and objectives and showed the importance of using different social media so that a change can be witnessed and women is provided an opportunity to fight and achieve their goals so that more and more representation of women can be ensured in politics. Presenter 2: Business and Government: Lessons Learned - in conversation with Lord Browne Research Question: The research question which has been identified in the presentation is that government organizations and sectors can improve their business efficiency by following what the private sector has done and need to concentrate on strategy clarity, focus on goal and have a commercial sense. Research Methodology: The research methodology which has been used is case study approach where real life examples and cases have been highlighted. This approach brings forward different avenues where the government sector has worked like a private sector enterprise and made changes so that focus is on the goal along with clarity of the goal and looking towards the commercial purpose has enabled and provided the opportunity through which the public sector has been able to gain efficiency and ensure that the different resources are used in a better way (Bent 2006). Strength & Weakness of Research Question: The strengths of the research question are as The research puts forward a notion where the working and use of different resources for the public sector improve if they use some of the strong points which the private sector denotes The research question highlights the importance of change for the public sector and needs to move away from their traditional method to one which is more aggressive and in tune with the modern times The weaknesses of the research question are as The research question looks to replicate the working style of the private sector in government sector which might not be true due to difference in management, philosophy, and thinking The research question doesn’t consider the fact that government organizations don’t work for profit motive but look for improving the social condition of the people so that approach used by the private sector cannot justify the mechanism which the public sector should adopt Results: The result which has been obtained is convincing and shows that the public sector hasn’t been able to gain maximum efficiency due to the fact that there are bottlenecks and the performance is not developed on parameters which will ensure best use of resources. While looking to implement the private sector model in the government sector it is important to distinguish the services as the government works for the betterment of the society and is not guided by profit motive which is the case in case of private sector. Key Learning’s: The overall presentation was a learning curve as it taught that a similar business model will not work in all situations as business has different purposes and drives. This is matched by the fact that change has to be continuously encounter so that the businesses keep in line with the modern times and are able to improve efficiency so that the use of resources improves. Lastly, the overall process requires a lot of changes in all areas which is difficult but the ability to bring those changes helps to improve efficiency. Presenter 3: Honesty: The Best Policy? Research Question: The research question identified by the presenter is that people tend to deal with rationale behaviour and take decisions which they feel are fair and don’t consider the same from the social perspective or legal perspective. In addition to it the rationale behaviour tends to change in different professions as people are guided by different motives which forces people to take decisions which are not correct and fair. Research Methodology: A qualitative approach which looks to understand human behaviour is being used as the presenter has identified the different situations where people act differently based on the different gains which they get. The behaviour changes in different situations and people look to take decisions which will benefit them (Hammersley, 2007). Strength & Weakness of Research Question: The strengths of the research question are It identifies the manner in which people are guided by personal motives which brings a change in the definition of honesty and people based on their rational behaviour take their own decision The research question also identifies that people act differently in different situation and it depends on the situation the person is in The weaknesses of the research question are Honestly might be a different definition from different perspective so it depends on the situation the person is in Different people have different irrational behaviour so that make all people act in a similar manner for all situation is unjustified and misleading Results: The results are not very convincing because different people might act differently in different situation. The manner a person acts depends on the resources, needs and other aspect which needs to be considered. Generalizing the same for all would be incorrect and would thereby require that generalized decisions are not taken and the decision the person takes might be different and depend on different situation. Key Learning’s: The key learning’s are that human behaviour is irrational and the decision which a person takes depends on different situation, whims, desires and requirements. Different situation and areas make people take different decisions and at times might result in a situation where the decisions are taken ensures personal gain but doesn’t create the same impact on the society. Presenter 4: Breaking down the barriers: How government and business can work better together Research Question: The research question which has been put forward by the presenter is that will the removal of barriers which exist between the government and the business due to cultural differences, process of thinking, different motives and administration improve the use of resources. The research question also asks regarding the changes which will be required in each area and highlights the different changes which have to be accounted for. Research Methodology: The research methodology which was used was a qualitative and case study method one. The research looks to present different evidence and areas through which the removal of differences between the government and the business will help to improve efficiency and will create the required scope through which the use of resources will improve. The research methodology also specifies the different areas where changes will have to be made with regard to culture, political government and administration purposes (Denzin & Lincoln 2000). Strength & Weakness of Research Question: The strengths of the research question are as The research helps to identify the manner in which removing the differences between the government and business will improve productivity and multiply the overall productivity of using the resources The research question identifies the manner in which different facets needs to be worked on and changes which is required in different areas so that the efficiency is gained and the business is able to transform their business ability The weaknesses of the research question are as The government and the business work with different motives so removing the differences could lead towards exploiting the society and it is imperative that the differences are kept and policies are developed through which efficiency can be gained The research further identifies the different areas where the government and the business has to work on but it might not be true as other factors have an equal role and making changes in the other factor could impact the differences which exist between the government and the business Results: The results which have been obtained is convincing and shows the manner in which making changes between the government and the business can bring maximum advantage and ensure that the resources are used in the most effective manner. The result also shows the different areas like culture, thinking process, and others which needs to e changed so that the business is able to improve the use of resources and ensure that removing the differences between the government and the business provides maximum advantage. Key Learning’s: The learning from the presentation was immense as it highlighted the different areas which need to be focused on and changes have to be made so that the business is able to improve efficiency. Reducing barriers and differences helps to improve operational efficiency and is one of the biggest learning which was accumulated. The process also provided learning with regard to the different smaller areas like cultural changes, thinking style and other are important while taking decision. Making changes in smaller aspect reflects on the bigger picture and provides an opportunity to take decisions which are better and provides operational gains.
