How Intersectional Identities Must Shape an Asian American Agenda for Social Change - Assignment Example

Intersectionality as an Asian American The concept of intersectionality is the classical oppression of people with regard to their gender, race, religion, social class, and sexual orientation. In the context of the Asian American, interesectionality involves the study of the Asian Americans beyond their race, and into deeper perspectives as their gender and religious belief. To champion for social change, intersectionality urges all the Asian American people to report their oppression cases to authorities. Besides, the main agenda of the Asian American population is to eliminate segregation, discrimination, and oppression long their racial orientation. Therefore, intersectionality drives the agenda for affirmative action. A census of our own presents a masterpiece that resulted from a 2010 Queers Southeast Asian survey. This sample had 364 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Asian Americans from the entire United States (Ishihara, 5). Intersectionality connects to the diversity of Asian American people through the difficulties in communication. Often when in public places, the Asian American people fear talking because they will be oppressed due to their inadequate knowledge of the native English language. Therefore, to emphasize on discrimination based on the diversity of the Asian American culture, many people from this race miss various educational scholarships based on their racial backgrounds. The educational experience of many Asian Americans is biased. To drive the social agenda of the Asian American community of affirmative action, equity must be allowed to prevail in the selection processes of students set to join universities. The excessive acceptance by the educational establishments on the previous cases of racial discrimination threaten the authorities to face stern legal actions form the social change activists. In fact, intersectionality in the education system is prime in the classroom balance experience in multiple learning institutions of the United States (Colorlines, 2). Furthermore, affirmative action requires the equal enrollment of the minority in to the prestigious educational systems, to eliminate the educational segregation attached to racial diversity. The immigration experiences of the Asian Americans are presents a partisan treatment of the immigrants based on their racial background. The continuous efforts by the elected members of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) indicate the difficult requirements that the authorities have put in place to discourage the inhabitation of undocumented immigrants in the United States. Such provisions as the military enlistment and the requirement of good moral conduct cast the Asian American community in bad picture as they require many strict eligibility criteria to be permanent legal residents of the United States. The difficulties that the Asian American face in the acquisition of job opportunities are evident. Many companies require the job applicant to have at least a certain number of years of experience in certain American Companies. This poses a challenge to the Asian Americans who do not have the level of education that these companies require form the applicants. The segregation in schooling opportunities spills over to the employment field/ many of the Asian Americans face problems in communicating with the interviewees, who often judge them negatively, form the discriminatory point of view. The American laws are strict and do not allow easy mobility of foreigners to other states without permission from the relevant authorities. Nonetheless, the Asian Americans face linguistic challenges in the process of changing environments. Due to these difficulties, the Asian Americans often find it difficult to adapt to new social and economic environments. Affirmative action calls for the increased participation of company staff, management, and Human Resource teams in inculcating the habit of tolerance and understanding amongst the diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. Moreover, this social change agenda focuses on organizational education based on various linguistic and cultural affiliations available in the United States. The identities of Asian Americans according to intersectionality produce a scenario explaining why the LGBTQ Asian Americans face multiple oppressions and multiple identities. Intersectionality indicates that the existent organizations that are in place to deal with the major identities of the Asian Americans are not addressing certain issues that make their identity recognizable (Ishihara, 22). Racism is a fact that defines the nature of how these immigrants are treated in the society. Nevertheless, social class and gender phobia represent a critical part in the identity of the Asian Americans. Intersectional identities must mould the Asian American Agenda that involves affirmative Action. This plan has preserves for equity, inclusivity, identity realization, and the fair treatment of all people regardless of their social, racial, religious, or economic background. More education, support system, and resources are required to counter the effects of gender phobia, homophobia, and racism at large. The Asian Americans face economic hardships that contribute pressure to the little family incomes. This limits the economic growth of Asian American immigrants. Approximately 74% of the Asian American families receive public assistance, with 25% of the parents unemployed. These disparities expound on the need to address the income inequalities and educational discrimination against the community (Buenavista and Gonzales, 5). The Asian Americans admit feeling unsafe and unwanted in public places that are full of Native Americans. The affirmative action plan sets out to explain the creation of safe places that will give relief to the emotionally stressed young people of the Asian American backgrounds. These safe spaces will come with lessons on how to manage the psychological trauma of living in a foreign land and other critical lessons on such topics as the sexuality education. The communication difficulties faced by the American Asians in explaining their experiences are challenging. There should be an alternative model in addressing the need for competent programming in cultural understanding. This mechanism will address the unique obstacles and challenges that the LGBTQ American Asians encounter when reporting their cases (Ishihara, 34). The generational gap is gradually drifting, and the young generation turns to other members of the family to acquire lessons on sexual orientation. This new mechanism should eliminate the communication challenges that the community faces in order to foster communal understanding and push for the betterment of the society.
