In previous clinical trials, grayscale version of three-dimensional displays has been recreated to determine mitral regurgitation. Regurgitant mitral flow jets could hardly be differentiated from adjoining structures of the heart. A regurgitant mitral flow displayed in the color-coded three-dimensional image was developed but eventually proved to be ineffective because the display failed to incorporate cardiac structures. Failure of the regurgitant flow to supply spatial information, jet origin and its course of action led to the reconstruction of a more enhanced colored 3D regurgitant jet by a transesophageal approach with Doppler color flow mapping that displayed a combination of grayscale and color flow information. OBJECTIVE: To reveal the possibility of three-dimensional recreation of regurgitant mitral flow jets using the new method of color programmed digitized statistics obtained through transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).
METHOD: 46 patients with detected mitral regurgitation on a prior transthoracic study and undergoing transesophageal echocardiography were evaluated. Patients with atrial fibrillation were not excluded from standard procedures. To measure regurgitant flow in 3D, a commercial ultrasound imaging system with a TEE probe was used. An alternation approach of data collection was employed for two-dimensional color flow images at 3-degree spaces above 180 degrees. Three-dimensional color flow jets were showed alongside grayscale information of the surrounding structures of the heart. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Intraoperative Abdominal Ultrasound: Animals Need Ultrasound Too
...in the preoperative period. Transabdominal ultrasound is not only a fast method of imaging, but also noninvasive, cheap and the imaging modality of choice for distinguishing non-obstructive from obstructive causes of jaundice. Transabdominal ultrasound also helps in providing general information with regard to the overall condition of the hepatic parenchyma. In current day practice, CT can of the pelvis and the abdomen is used rampantly because of the valuable information it provides anatomically and also helps in evaluation of the presence of extrahepatic disease. However, the sensitivity of detection of lesions is modest, i.e., only 34- 76 percent...

...representation of the amplitude, in which the ultrasound reacts. The reaction therefore is given a frequency depending on the surrounding medium. In the last diagram, it is evident that the amplitude and reaction has a given numerical figure. In a further analysis of the diagram, it if denoted as ? (Bates, 2004). This denotes that the ultrasound in production has a particular frequency, depending on the emanating sound. In the last diagram denoted with ?, it is evident that the frequency and amplitude in a sound effect can be measured, depending on the magnitude. In some images, it is possible to notice a spectrum of frequencies, which reflects a wide range of frequencies. This is...

...? Evidence based Modality Evidence based Modality Introduction The treatment modality discussed here is a silver dressing on a patient with Type II diabetes and a non-healing ulcer on the right foot. The clinical eductor granted the necessary permission during the clinical placement to explore/evaluate this treatment modality in sessions conductd by a district nurse. In order to facilitate proper follow-up of the case, a suitable case study was selected. This paper will briefly describe the format of this case study along with the essential parameters. Thereafter, the study will asses the effectiveness of the modality using related literature. Lastly, the...

Evidence Based Silver Dressing Modality Evidence based Modality Introduction This paper aims at discussing modality of silver dressing on a patient diagnosed with a non-healing ulcer on the right foot and type II diabetes. The case was reviewed for a period of three months in order to allow for an accurate follow-up of the case. This was done under the permision of the clinical educator in a clinial placement session whose objective was to assess this modality. The assesment was based on sessions conducted by a district nurse. In this paper, a brief descriptionof the case study format as well as some of the key issues underlying the modality will be provided. Sequentially, this study will also seek to evaluate the efficacy... of the...

Ultrasound Technician Profession
...? Ultrasound Technician Profession al Affiliation Ultrasound Technician Profession An Ultrasound technician is one who qualifies to use ultrasound technology and equipment to improve the internal parts of the human body. An ultrasound technician works on the ultrasound machine technically. He or she carries out processes that are often similar those carried out using X-ray machines (Mitchell and Haroun, 2011). Better stated, an ultrasound technician creates medical imaging of the human body using the device. Such imaging in the human body includes the spinal cord, the abdominal area, the brain, eyes and the correlating muscles. Mostly, ultrasound technicians work in hospitals but can choose to work in other health care facilities... or...

...Extended Field-of- View Sonography Transducers of ultrasound are mobile and small when compared to those of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. It is because of these properties that ultrasound can be used for viewing any part of the body in every position. However, one major limitation in this application is the small field of view, especially when high resolution linear arrays are used. the field of view excludes many identifiable landmarks. This limitation makes ultrasound a much inferior technology when compared to CT Scan or MRI. To overcome these disadvantages, a new imaging technology has been developed. This is known as extended...
